Today (05/05/16) I checked to see if Plug Ins were up to date. Reported Java & Flash needed updating & also that Firefox update was available. I updated Flash & also Java, then checked Firefox via Help, About Firefox, which reported version I have as up to date. Odd. I then exited Firefox, rebooted machine, launched browser again - still reported Firefox, Java & Flash as needing to be updated. Followed update process again. Same result. Clearly, Update check is not working properly.

If your internal Firefox updater won't work, you can grab Firefox 46.0.1 directly from the server here:

http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/46.0.1/win32/en-US/

Use the larger installer, instead of the "stub" installer.

For languages other than U.S. English, click the ".." link and find the language code and click into that folder (if you're not sure of the code, let us know what language you need).

There is an update for Firefox, 46.0.1. The easiest way to access it using Windows XP or Windows Vista is the "About Firefox" dialog. This article has more info on that: Update Firefox to the latest release.

Regarding Flash, as far as I can tell, it's a mistake. The plugin checker wants you to have 21.0.0.226 (see linked screenshot), but that update is, as far as I can tell, only for Mac at this point -- and not security-related. For Windows, 21.0.0.213 still is the latest. Hopefully they'll fix it before we get a dozen more questions!

For Java, I'm looking into it.

Java - The plugincheck site has Update 92 (U92) as the latest version, so previous versions are considered Outdated, or if they have serious security issues, Vulnerable.

Oracle issued Update 91 (security fix) and Update 92 (security+features) on the same day: https://blogs.oracle.com/java/entry/new_release_jdk_8u91_and

Your Question Details > More System Details shows U91, which has the important security fixes. I don't know were I got U92; maybe from the Java automatic updater??

Anyway, if you have U91, there's no rush to get U92, and in fact, I'm not sure where you would download it even if you wanted it. The main download page provides U91. https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

The Plugin check should be showing 21.0.0.213 as the latest for Windows users now.

Hi. Thanks for all the help with this one. All replies were helpful in checking if the problem was mine - wasn't. jscher200 nailed it in advising to update to Firefox version 46, which wasn't available yesterday through 'normal' route. This has sorted the issue, so it appears to have been something internal to Firefox, as my versions on Java & Flash were up-to-date but FFv.45 didn't seem to know that. Not helpful that you get a prompt to update Firefox via the Add Ons page, when the Firefox "Help, About Firefox" route to update is out of step with it. Something the developers might want to look at.

If your Flash Player version is 21.0.0.213 then you were up to date. This had nothing to do with Firefox 45.0.2 or 46.0.1 but due to the Plugin check page. It was for a brief time set to look for 21.0.0.226 for Windows users even though that version was for Mac OSX only.

Not sure about manual updates but I believe the automatic updates to 46.0.1 was turned off and was only turned on some hours after you started this thread.
