I am tired of constantly being required to install a new update for Adobe Flash player which ALWAYS includes a marketing program embedded in the download, for Google Chrome, or McAfee or Malware or some other junk I do not want.

Instead I would like to migrate away from Adobe Flash and instead utilize VLC as my default media player, but when I go to my Control Panel set defaults VLC is not included. I have found "instructions" on line to add VLC to the Control Panel list, but you would HAVE to be a programming specialist to wade through the basic machine code and effectively achieve upload to the Control Panel Default Option list.

I figure I cannot be the only customer afflicted by this marketing ploy by Adobe Flash....over the last few months....and I prefer Firefox....so I figure you must have other customers writing to you. I simply want to dump Adobe Flash. If enough people dump them, then maybe they will abandon this marketing crap.

You can change the settings for Adobe automatic updates so it doesn't bug you. Right click on something that uses Flash Player and click Global Settings. In the advanced settings tab there is options about updates. If it is set to never check that pop up should no longer come up. At this point in time some websites require flash to operate properly, and in VLC's future they may be able to do something like that. I tried to try what you are doing and I understand what you trying to do but it is not possible at this point in time.

I hope this explains what you were asking.

The Adobe flash player now has expanded its programming and I cannot access the Administrator controls to fully upload the latest version of Adobe Flash player. This is another Adobe pain In the posterior. The instructions say to create a user account. I am the only user, I don't want multiple accounts. I already owned this computer and have hundreds of files, it would really be inconvenient to have to migrate to a different user account just so I can load the latest dang Adobe software. Perhaps you can tell me how to access the Administrator level on this Windows 7 Home Professional OS / computer so I can load the Adobe software, being as they have a monopoly on flash playing.

Also, I'm having to use IE instead of Firefox, because every time I start Firefox it freezes up. This never happened before the Adobe flash player latest version upload "requirement" surfaced. (Maybe coincidental).

But I can't believe I am the only user with this problem?

I assumed it was some kind of collaboration between Adobe and IE (Microsoft) to effectively interfere with Firefox, so people would have to use IE, and I figured you guys would sort it out and a future version of Firefox would sidestep the Adobe/Microsoft gambit.

Is there another software I can use beside Microsoft that is less virus prone? Are you only pursuing hand held gadget OS software, not doing PC's OS? I would leave Microsoft in a New York Second!! Thanks for your help!!

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
