using Firefox 52.7.0 (32-bit)

SMTP settings - smtphm.sympatico.ca, port 587, STARTTLS , password authentication - can ping server successfully

- webmail on Bell site works, i.e. can send e-mail successfully

Really?

The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Service not available.

This looks like a server problem. You should check with your email provider.
