can't open links from office 2016 or thunderbird

more options

Hello,

For the last months, can't open a link that are from office 2016 or thunderbird

- On thunderbird it does nothing after selecting link, eventhough I select the option from contextual menu - On Word when opening a link (https://business.twitter.com/es/resources.html) opens https://business.twitter.com/es/resources.htmlFirefoxHTML/Shell/Open/Command. I don't know why it adds this FirefoxHTML/Shell/Open/Command !! - On Outlook there is a message error and can't open link. I suppose there is FirefoxHTML/Shell/Open/Command added.

I've Windows 10 for almost a year and in the beginning all worked fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you familiar with the Windows registry editor (regedit.exe)? If you are already familiar with it, you could do a global search for FirefoxHTML/Shell/Open/Command (all as one string of text) to see whether you can find it in there. Otherwise, there might be a safer way to track it down.

It sounds as though the registry settings for how to handle URLs are broken in some way. I'm not sure whether this will help but they are fairly easy to try:

(1) Default Browser switch

Try having another browser make itself the default browser, then have Firefox reassert itself. See: How to change your default browser to Firefox on Windows.

If that doesn't help...

(2) Reinstall Firefox without removing your data

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

It only take a few minutes.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 47.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) For maximum plugin compatibility, choose the 32-bit version.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, rename the program folder as follows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Any improvement?

Thanks jscher2000 for your reply.

Before posting my question I've tryed point number 1 with no success.

And doing the clean install you mentioned has not solved the problem.

Any other suggestion?

Searching in Windows registry editor the value for this entry is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint -url "%1"

How can I confirm if this value is correct?

Hi kalpa, that is the normal value. Somewhere else there must be a corrupted value that includes the longer string.
