Flash player stuck in loop after update on Windows 10?

After the upgrade to Windows 10, Adobe Flash auto updated to 21.0.0.242. Flash video no longer worked on CBS.com. It would load the video and just sit on a blank screen with no sound or video. So I went and used the uninstaller, and tried reinstalling the latest version of Flash. Now all I get on any Flash enabled site is a constant loop where it continually loads and a dialog box intermittently pops up saying that the plugin is not responding and asking if I wish to stop it. The dialog box almost immediately disappears and clicking on Stop Plugin does nothing. I either have to close Firefox altogether, or hit the home button and wait for it to register. I have tried disabling Adobe's Protected mode to no effect. I'd as soon do without Flash altogether, but unfortunately, it's still too common on many websites.

After re-enabling each hardware acceleration and protected mode one at a time, my problem has not yet repeated itself despite being constant last night. I'm not even sure what could have happened. I still wish I could figure out CBS.com, but if that's the only site I have issues with, I'll just use Edge for that (as much as I prefer Firefox).

Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

I have the latest non-beta graphics drivers for my system and I used Adobe's tool to download and install the NPAPI version that is appropriate for Firefox. I have not tried to install the ActiveX version of Flash on my computer.

Well, just tried disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox and protected mode in Flash, and I'm no longer in the non-responsive loop. That much is good, but I still can't figure out what is going on with CBS.com. It still won't play video.
