Cox.net is transitioning from in-house e-mail to e-mail handled by Yahoo.com. Our cox.net addresses are supposed to (and apparently have) transitioned so that they still work, but are processed through pop.mail.yahoo.com.

It is my turn to be transitioned and I have been successful in doing so to the extent that I can send and receive using my address(es) ...@cox.net through Yahoo web mail and on my Samsung phone. I have not, however, been successful in either sending or receiving mail using Thunderbird on my desktop.

I have been successfully using Thunderbird with POP settings for years with four different cox.net addresses. [I'm currently just trying to get two of them working -- unsuccessfully.]

I am using Windows 10 on a Dell desktop. I am using Thunderbird 115.9.0 (32 bit). I have reset the POP and SMTP settings as directed by Yahoo. One of the errors I receive is: "Error with Account .... Sending of password for ...@cox.net did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded (SYS/TEMP) Server Error - Please try again later." It then asks me to retry or enter a new password. I have checked the passwords saved by Thunderbird and they are correct.

I suspect, that with all the Cox accounts being newly routed through Yahoo servers that I am not the only Thunderbird user experiencing this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it likely to help if I uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird? Would I loose all my mail, etc. if I did that? [I did the delete and add account in my phone and that was successful, but I wasn't concerned about losing mail there as it is all on my desktop.]

Thanks in advance. billb1111

I've provided all of the other data, no problem. But the <Your login> field has only "YOURDOMAIN\yourusername" in it as a format hint. The field carries an Info symbol, but it's greyed out.

There are many possible domains, e.g. microsoft.com, office365.com, outlook.com, each with possible 3LDs, and the domain-name of the organisation that provides my account.

The most obvious (MYORGDOMAIN\Roger.Clarke) gets the error-message: > Authentication failed. Please check the username and password. (I checked, and they're the same as I use for a webmail login there).

Leaving it empty gets this error-message: > Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password. (That about covers the possibilities then ...).

I am getting the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account all the time while using TBM, I have removed the gmail account and the pop up does not show, so I know it is for the email account just removed. I re-add the email address and enter the email address and password and let it find the config itself. Click Done, and get the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account again, then click Allow and get the Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com. message in the bottom left of my desktop. How can i get gmail to work again please.

Hi. I have used Thunderbird for a long time. I have never had a problem accessing my hotmail account for emails. Overnight Thunderbird now posts error message boxes when trying to login to the hotmail server. It reports incorrect username or password. Neither has been changed by me and comparison with Eset Password Manager shows them to be correct. I can login to Outlook online using the same login credentials an get my emails that way. I have also changed my Outlook hotmail password while logged in in my browser and updated everything on the PC to match of course.

I have massaged the server Settings for hotmail and have had the system working again, for a while. Twice I have reset the settings to a different server and back again and that seems to clear the problem for a while. Then the error messages switch on again consistently. At this moment using "File" -> "Get New Messages For:" -> "Hotmail" works without any problem and the automatic scheduled checking reports "No messages to download" so it appears to be working. But that is after just coming back to my PC to find a string of failed attempts, each with its own error box, which have appeared since I last "fixed" the problem and assumed it was now fine.

My server settings are Type: POP; Name: pop-mail.outlook.com; Port: 995; Username: same as for browser access (which works); Password: As in Thunderbird's stored passwords matching Password Manager and working browser access.

In my paranoia I have even wondered if I am being locked out by Microsoft somehow. Can anyone suggest what is going on here?

I have a hotmail.com address. Until recently, it worked well as webmail, plus also from TB on laptop, via IMAP and SMTP.

A few days ago, the sending function via SMTP stopped working (not IMAP); and webmail is still fine. I've tried a lot to solve it, but to no avail.

My guess is that MS is to blame, but don't know how to reach someone better-than-hotline there.

Details see annex; OS is Win10, TB is 115.9

Would someone be familiar with this kind of problem? According to my traditional european quality idea, best should be to get in touch with an MS technician with access to the syslog, to hear what the system's response to connection attempts is - but this seems to be precluded? I wonder what alternatives there might be?

Hi all

After upgrading to 115 (Linux amd64), messages are no longer marked as read when I delete them before they are marked as read (either automatically or manually). I have (and have had for many years) set "When I delete a message" to "Move it to this folder" -> Trash on (Name of my IMAP account). Before the upgrade, messages were moved to the Trash AND automatically marked as read when I deleted them. Now, they are moved to the selected Trash folder, but left unread, and the Trash folder gets displayed in bold, together with a number counting unread messages in it.

Is there a way to get the old behaviour back?

Thanks and best regards /m

Random password prompts and slowness [was 115 is unusable, need help getting back the previous version] (win10)

First of, good on the person who came up with the name "Supernova"(for anyone who don't know, a supernova is the collosal explosion of a star that has run out of fuel) for this update as it is a perfect description of it, a horrid mess.

Ever since the update i keep getting prompts to enter my credentials for all my hotmail/outlook accounts, CONSTANTLY.. At first i thought it was just a one time thing because of the update, but no.. It'll calm down for a while and then the popups come back randomly.

I found no solution that worked in the support forum, and one particular last quip in a comment from a Top 10 contributor actually irritated me a bit even tho the comment wasn't directed at me: "My encouragement is to stay with 115 and work through the transition." Really? When stuff get's so bad that regular non techy people come here for help to downgrade, and that's the response, it's a sign that the people making thunderbird and the community members(As i understand it the community members do this in their own spare time out of the goodness of their hearts, and i do not intend to cast shade and hate on them, the people helping here are amazing) who try to help people on the forum has gotten too out of touch with the average Joe with 0 tech skills at all. Things that seem like simple workarounds or fixes for you, is like arabic writing to a first grader who only knows english, you have gotten out of touch with how truly clueless people are when it comes to anything more than simply accessing and using a program or app normally. If you have to make folders and css files to restore some of the ease of use you had before this update, then the update is catastrophically flawed from the get go. Updates for programs like this that changes things so dramatically, should NEVER go to auto update or release, it's so slow and laggy and buggy atm it would pain me to even call it beta worthy, it feels like the program is in an alpha test period.

Sorry for the rant, now for what i need help with. I want to go back to the previous version before any of the supernova crap got onto it, from a comment here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1426218 , David | Top 10 Contributor details how to go back to 102. So, i strap in and prepare myself for the looooong time it's going to take for all my emails to download again after doing a full clean install, BUT, i have a problem, WHICH of the !!46!! different 102 versions do i chose? I read that i had to use this archive https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/ to find older versions, but which of the versions do i use? Which was the latest stable 102 build? Unfortunatly that wasn't deemed necessary info, please help, i want to get away from the massive explosion of an update.
