Hi

I've tried to search for a solution but couldn't find anything. I'm using Thunderbird 91.9.1 on Linux (Ubuntu), however I've tried this also on Windows 10 and exact same problem. I'm using the owl plugin to integrate to Microsoft O365 - that part works just fine. My problem is I've imported a gpg key and when I try to decrypt emails, the lower left bar just says "Loading message" but nothing happens - no error messages or nothing.

I can decrypt the same message using the same key with GnuPG on the command line, so nothing wrong with the key. I've also tried using an external key instead on importing directly into Thunderbird - same result. Is there any logging I can enable that would help me troubleshoot this, google didn't give me any good answers?

Grateful for any ideas. Regards Christian

I continually get prompted to enter my password (saved on Thunderbird). When I do enter it, I get the exact same prompt. The work around that is successful 80% of the time is to log into https://accounts.google.com/signin/v2/identifier?passive=1209600&continue=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FDisplayUnlockCaptcha&followup=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FDisplayUnlockCaptcha&flowName=GlifWebSignIn&flowEntry=ServiceLogin -- which allows me to unblock Thunderbird. When that doesn't work, I have to open my browser and log directly into gmail, using the same password. The peculiar part is that, throughout all this, I seem to be receiving e-mails normally. This only happens on sending (or when my VPN is engaged, but that's a whole 'nuther ball of dung). The other strange bit is after it starts working, it works fine for a few days, sometimes weeks, then I have to go through all this again, so I know my settings are right.

I've just installed the latest Thunderbird, using the default imap settings and my known good gmail password. When I press 'Done', Google asks me to log in and give permission to Thunderbird to access my gmail account. This goes fine, but Thunderbird then reports that the password is rejected. I know that it is good, and I can't see anything wrong. Everything seems to be set correctly and none of the help topics appears to give me a solution that I haven't already tried. Help please!

Suddenly today my Thunderbird email account on my desktop won't send or receive mails until I enter the password. When I add in the correct password it doesn't accept it but just comes back asking for it again. I suspect it is best to change my password but don't know how to do that. Incidentally the account is working fine on my phone and tablet with the same password but not on my desktop. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Since having to change my Microsoft Account Password recently, Outlook.com in Tbird Ver.102 now asks for the password each time I open Tbird (which I successfully provide). My oher addresses (including Gmail) operate normally without login requests. I considered selecting "Yes" when invited to add the PW to the Tbird (?) Passwords Safe. but am noting the many Support Discussions about problems apparently associated with it. Are there any comments and/or Tbird Settings that I should ensure are properly set before I contemplate getting myself into yet another problem?

How do I see and edit server, xfinity, gmail, etc, paswords store in Thunderbird? I have seen mulitple answers to this question, none of which work for me. For example, one of your answers says see menu(///), tools, preferences. My thunderbird has no preferences under tools. I just downloaded thunderbird today (Jan 8, 23) after a window 11 reset, so I think I have the lastest version of t-bird.

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded a version of Thunderbird 38 for use on an older Mac (older than the one I’m using to create this post). Now, I’m trying to set up OAuth2 to comply with Google’s new requirements for Gmail, but the final steps (authentication, generation of an OAuth2 token) never finish. This is what I’ve done so far:

The Gmail account that I want to set up with OAuth2 is set to IMAP for incoming (I had to create a new account in Thunderbird for this) and SMTP for outgoing. OAuth2 is selected in TB for both servers. The Google login window pops up, and I can enter my information and click “Allow” for TB to access my Google Account. After that, though, the process just runs. There’s a blue circle near the top left corner of the TB window (next to the word “Inbox”) that keeps spinning, and a line of diagonal blue stripes in a small graphic at the bottom of the window keeps moving to the right, but nothing else happens. This will go on for hours if I let it. I can take other actions in TB (change settings, etc.) while this is going on, and no error message ever appears.

I should also note that I get alerts from Google (which I can access via other devices) about a new sign-in, and the computer in question shows up in my Google Account screens as being signed into my account. I have also recognized the new sign-ins by clicking the “Yes, it was me” button. Therefore, it appears that TB has successfully connected to my Google Account; I just don’t know why the authentication won’t complete itself. Should I let it run, even with the understanding that it might take several hours?

Here are some further details, based on what I’ve read while doing research on my own:

-Cookies are enabled in TB (“Accept always,” “Keep until they expire”). -Two Google-based cookies have appeared (google.com, accounts.google.com). -My computer’s firewall is off for the time being. I don’t have any antivirus software, as this is a Mac. -My “User Name” in the Server Settings window is my full e-mail address. -There is nothing written in the “Saved Passwords” window. -I’ve tried shutting my computer down entirely and then restarting the authentication process. -I don’t think my computer can run any versions of TB that are later than 38. -Specific incoming/outgoing settings: IMAP port 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 for incoming; SMTP port 587, STARTTLS, OAuth2 for outgoing.

I really need to access my Gmail on this computer, but am not a tech person and have run out of ideas to try on my own. Any help would be *greatly* appreciated! And, of course, I’d be happy to provide additional details if necessary.

Thank you!!

P.S. If it would be simpler to use my original POP account with 2-factor authentication, then I would be open to doing that instead. I just haven’t been able to find out if “app passwords” are compatible with TB 38.

I had to change my gmail pwd due to a possible security breach as reported to me by Experian.

After the change, Tbird flashed this error message upon the next startup (please see image)

After about 20 minutes of poking about, I found where I could change the password for my google account. I changed it to the new password. There is zero chance I got it wrong because I copy/pasted it from my pwd mgr. I still get this error message making T'bird useless to me.

I'm definitely let down that such as simple op as pwd change was so difficult to find and now seems impossible to do. I haven't a CLUE what the STAT command is or how to address this condition.

Any suggestions are greatly welcomed.

I'm unable to add any of my Gmail accounts into Thunderbird.

When I add a Gmail account, it goes through the process of logging in via OAuth2 using the default configuration, and I get the pop-up. I enter my email address and password, and it brings me to the Google screen where I approve of giving access to Thunderbird (this screen: https://www.google.ca/search?q=google+account+permissions+screen+thudnerbird&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjtpY2M7I_3AhXHg3IEHaaPCOkQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=google+account+permissions+screen+thudnerbird&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQA1CVA1jjDmDED2gAcAB4AYABgwGIAbcJkgEDNi42mAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=jiFWYu2mCceHytMPpp-iyA4&bih=754&biw=1600#imgrc=ZNXSyYRJ67bY4M).

When I hit Allow, the pop-up closes, and then Thunderbird comes back with "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

I have no problem adding Gmail to other apps; it's only Thunderbird that is having this issue. I've already tried a fresh install on a fresh profile, but it continues to fail.

Hi, Yesterday I noticed problem with Thunderbird. When I try to add account (for the first time) i get a message "Unable to login at server...". The problem is, that ive checked each possible problem indicated by people on the Internet: - cookies set as "always turned on" - authorization method set as "OAuth2" - saved password - cleared - proper ports addresses - anti-virus app - disabled while trying to solve In fact, after I click "Done" (after i fill in NICKNAME/MAIL ADRESS/PASSWORD) in order to go to the authorization, the Gmail window pops up (that's great!). I can easily enter my email adress and password, but afterwards "Unable to login at server..." appears. The problem is not tied with THIS Google Account, emerges all the time, even for different accounts. I have no more ideas. Please help!

I have recently started receiving an expired SSL warning from my A/V that a certificate is expired, thunderbird is indicated to be the application attempting the connection.

After looking at the certificate reported it is, indeed, expired, however I don't know where it is coming from, the domain reported is not one of the domains I check email on, (but it is the root domain for the CPanel hosting that those domains sit on).

How can I find out just what certificate it is finding, and how can I resolve it, all of the domains SSL certs are reported as up2date on other apps, including Firefox.

Hello,

I am setting up PGP in Thunderbird. Sometimes I want to send an email which is signed but not encrypted. However, before I send this to someone else I want to make sure that it works. So I sent an email to myself (2 different accounts which I both control and have added to Thunderbird). The email has the signature attached but the Thunderbird UX doesn't give me any information about whether or not it successfully verified the signature. I tried downloading the `.eml` file and checking the signature against that, but it failed (I'm assuming that I tried to verify the wrong thing, not that the signature is actually bad).

Any help would be appreciated.

I originally installed Thunderbird about 2 years ago via the package installer on my Linux desktop. Currently running the 68.10 version which has never updated nor is there a function to update the program. I've read through the FAQ's and nothing was helpful. This all came to my attention when I received the following email from my email provider at mail.com a few days ago.

"Deactivation of TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and unencrypted access We are contacting you because one or more of your devices or programs uses the TLS 1.0 and/or TLS 1.1 encryption protocols to connect to our mail.com email servers, or is using an unencrypted connection. This involves either access via SMTP (sending emails) or retrieval via POP3/IMAP (receiving emails).

Unfortunately, the TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols are outdated and no longer meet current security standards. To protect your email communications, soon we will no longer allow access to our mail.com servers with these outdated protocols. Unencrypted access will also no longer be possible."

They indicated that mail service will stop to my Thnderbird account in a couple weeks if the problem has not been corrected.

Thank you for any suggestions about correcting the issue.

I regularly receive and send emails with an S/MIME signature on a ECA card (certs are authenticated via the US Government). I also use a Yubikey for MFA, those certs are authenticated by our local certificate server. Several emails per day are encrypted with the certificates on the ECA card, mostly received. I use ActiveClient as the driver for the ECA card. The last few releases of Thunderbird have been particularly problematic in that 1) if the ECA card has not been previously authenticated with a PIN, and I try to send a signed email, the Broadcom card reader does not recognize when the ECA card is inserted, although it does see the Yubikey device, 2) If the ECA has been authenticated within the 10 minute timeout period, Thunderbird will let me send a signed email; 3) after the card has timed out 2-4 times, Thunderbird no longer responds after trying to read an encrypted email even if I authenticate the ECA using ActiveClient or going to a secure website that requires the ECA card for access. Note that FireFox will let me successfully re-authenticate no matter how many times the authentication has timed out.

My current issue is that I cannot get Thunderbird to respond at all, as the last thing I tried to look at was an encrypted email. Every time I restart Thunderbird, it opens on that email and I can't seem to close the tab before it locks up, then gives me the spinning wheel... Attached is a screen shot of task manager where TB is not responding. I will try rebooting next to see if I can get a cleaner start to TB get the version number, and read a couple of emails before it locks up.

I have two Mac systems. An M1 2020 MacBook Pro and a 2014 Intel Mac mini, macOS Monterey on both systems. I use the email client "Postbox" which is based on Thunderbird. When I saw the announcement for Thunderbird 115 Supernova I thought I'd give it a try. Installed on the MacBook Pro, played around a bit but ended up uninstalling it. Now on the MacBook Pro, I keep getting the attached image where the email body should be. It only happens on the MacBook Pro, so I'm thinking it must have something to do with the Thunderbird installation/removal. What do I have to do/delete/change to have this go away? Thanks.
