I have Thunderbird on two PCs. Thunderbird stopped working on my older PC, Lenovo Z40, Windows 10. I uninstalled Thunderbird on that PC and tried to reinstall. I have downloaded the set up file, but when I open it tells me I need a Microsoft safe app and sends me to Edge browser. I looked at help website but can't see how to overcome this step to get to what is described on the Tunderbird UTube video. I have downloaded the Thunderbird set up file using Edge, Chrome and Firefox browsers. Same problem each time. Thanks

Hello ! I have just had a new hard drive fitted to my old PC after a horrendous OneDrive incident. I have installed Thunderbird on my new drive but it does not seem to have loaded a Profiles folder in my AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird - just Adobe, Microsoft and Mozilla (Firefox). Can you tell me where else it might be so that I can paste in my old Thunderbird folder (with years and years of emails)  ?

Hello,

I just copied my whole profile folder from a Debian 12 (Thundebird 115.7) to a Ubuntu 22.04 (Thunderbird 115.8). I expected when running it, to find it in the exact same state because, as what I'm aware of, everything is stored in the profile and nowhere else on the filesystem.

But, I found that: - my favorite folders (around 10) weren't there (well, only 1 of them) - A lot of mails were in "unseen" state (not the unread/read marker, but that star that appears the first time you open a folder for mails that has just been downloaded), where they were already seen

So my concern is about where/how are those values supposed to be stored, and why they don't seem to "migrate" as well? And, may there be some other things that didn't come too?

      • After messing with it for about 8 hours I got it resolved*** I'm moving thunderbird to a new computer. So far I've created a new profile on a the new computer's G: drive and the program is also installed in a different folder on the G: Drive. (I'm planning to have two copies of Thunderbird on the computer). The other copy for different mailboxes will be on the C: Drive. I copied the profile from the old computer to the new computer's G: Drive in a separate location. When I open Thunderbird it lists all my email accounts in the moved profile but when I go into the inboxes they are all blank. I noticed if I left click on the inbox and go to properties it's showing the inbox location as the F: drive (which is where it was on the old computer) for example mailbox:///F:/Thunderbird/Profiles/......... I don't see a way to edit the inbox location. How can I change that so it's looking for the mailboxes on the G: Drive instead of the F: Drive? The path is also a little different between the two computers. The old computer was: F:/Thunderbird/Profiles/........ and the new computer is G:/Thunderbird Data/Profiles/.........

Also I don't know if this makes any difference...On the old computer a 32 bit version of Thunderbird was running even though it is a 64 bit computer. The new computer is running the 64 bit version. They are both updated to the latest Thunderbird release.

Thanks

Uninstalling and reinstalling - WITHOUT losing emails!

Hi, I am a new TB user, and love it so far :) However, I am on Fedora (new to that too) and installed it via the Fedora repository rather than Flathub. You don't need to know that though, the upshot is...

I need to uninstall TB, and then install it again immediately (from another source). I spent WEEKS getting help from a coder who wrote me a python script and all sorts of headaches to get my massive 20 year email archive converted from mac into TB. So I have tons of nested local folders, and all settings set up nicely. I am scared of losing stuff, account details, settings, worst of all local folders and the emails contained in them.

Please can someone advise me how best to go about uninstalling it and reinstalling it while leaving my entire profile, emails, settings, accounts intact. Is that possible? Thanks

I'm using Thunderbird on Linux Mint. The installation is the same one I've had for awhile, with two email accounts in it, one being GMail.

Today I changed my Google password. I expected Thunderbird to prompt me when the old password failed; and it did, except the window it showed me was entirely blank, except for a URL bar at the top which was to Google's domain.

I tried it several times, same result. I closed Thunderbird and restarted. This time the window prompting me about the GMail connection had stuff in it, but it showed a Thunderbird logo and seemed to want me to "log into Thunderbird" or something (not Google). I think I clicked a button to advance through that screen and something else went wrong, IIRC.

I decided to just delete the GMail account and rebuild it from scratch. In "create account"; it succeeds at finding a configuration for GMail, where IMAP is selected over POP3. I press the "Done" button, but a yellow bar becomes displayed:

Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsiMsgAccountManager.createIncomingServer]

And it also says "Checking password..." with a spinning hourglass that never resolves.

Any thoughts?

Had to wipe old Win 11 due to corruption. When setting up from scratch, I use 3 gmail accounts. However when I downloaded Tbird, trying to set up myt 3 gmail accounts, Gmail will NOT authorize Tbird. I have tried all advice that I've seen on forums and on YouTubes. None work. Contacting Gmail is impossible. Forums are not providing any solutions. Does anyone have a proven fix? I appreciate your help. Thank you.

When I looked at my profile I find that there are several folders created for each of my email addresses at different times. I had wondered about the possibility of clean install of each of the accounts (IMAP) so this would pickup everything from the individual servers. Then copying across the local folders and my address book. Is this possible/feasible? Would it just be easier to import everything? Where is the address book stored. I also have TB backed up on an external drive (insurance). Thanks
