Windows Security: 4/13/2022 - detected 14 Severe Threats from inbound emails infected with Trojan:HTML/Phish.RA!MTB. 4/14/2022 - detected 23 more since then - "only" 27 more, because I stopped opening Thunderbird except when absolutely necessary..
By that time, Outlook 2016 was also up and running on the same computer and receiving the same email account's messages.
When Thunderbird is shut down, not one Severe Threat is seen by Windows Security. Outlook does not allow infected messages to get through. The moment I open Thunderbird, the virus flood begins with pent up fervor.
Conclusion: Thunderbird has severe security issues. Not Windows. Not Outlook.
With respect, what's going on?
Thank you, rsw1941

I've been using Outlook Express (from XP) for years, even into the Windows 10 era with a patched version of XP. Since GMail will no longer support it after May 2022 I decided to migrate to Thunderbird Portable.
Since 91.8.1 doesn't import from Outlook Express, I first used Thunderbird Portable 52.9.1 x86 (last version that supports XP) to import mails, accounts and whatever else it imports. I then set up a Primary Password, and painstakingly manually added all rules from Outlook Express to Thunderbird's "filters". After everything was up and running, I upgraded to Thunderbird Portable 91.8.1 x86.
For some reason, when I try to login to any GMail account, after the login, pass, allow Thunderbird as email client, a popup window appears asking me to "Change Password", but whatever password I put, it always says "Unable to change password". If I go to "Privacy & Security", "Use a Primary Password" is disabled, and if I check it, it asks me to enter and re-enter a new password, but it also says "Unable to change Primary Password".
II tried both commands listed in the link below, both seem to work by pressing the Reset button, but the error console seems to output a uncaught exception. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/protect-your-thunderbird-passwords-master-password#w_resetting-your-master-password-if-you-have-forgotten-it
Any more suggestions?

Google On May 30, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology ???????@gmail.com To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. I have two email accounts that I access via Thunderbird v91.8.1 (64 bit): -
1. Gmail, which is set up to use Gmail's OAuth2 and works fine and, 2. Zoho mail, which currently uses Username and 'Normal password' authentication, which also works fine. For now.
If Zoho mail stops supporting username/password and tightens their security to use MFA (as they are likely to, like Gmail has) then their equivalent to OAuth2 is their own 'OneAuth' and Thunderbird does not seem to support this at this time.
If this happens then I will no longer be able to use TB to access my Zoho emails so can you tell me if TB is intending to support zoho's OneAuth as well as Gmail's OAuth2 and when we may expect this to happen?
Thank you

Incredibly, Thunderbird will not save a login password even though the box is checked. Not only that, a sign in with Google screen keeps popping up every two or three minutes. What the blankety-blank is wrong? How can this email client, so many years in development, behave so stupidly? I've checked various links from Mozilla and others, but none of the so-called solutions actually work. I need to know:
1. How can I convince Thunderbird to save my login passwords?
2. How can I stop the sign in with Google screen from constantly reappearing?
My outgoing emails end up in recipient's spam folder before they see the email. How can I prevent that from happening?

I have been using Thunderbird for several years for my GMail accounts, and have always preferred to download my messages using the POP and SMTP protocols, rather than use the IMAP protocol which leaves them all on the web. Google now inform me that "To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. How can I prepare for them and still use the POP and SMTP protocols after that date? Is OAuth 2.0 appropriate?

My email address and password were hacked today, so I can't get access to Thunderbird. I contacted my Webmail provider (Telstra - Australia) who have issued a new password that works in Webmail. However, apparently TB is only updated(?) once a month, and until then, my password isn't recognised by TB, so I can't get access to send and receive emails. I hope that makes sense. My questions are: is it true that I may have to wait up to 1 month to get this sorted; if an update is needed, when is the next date this will be done by TB; and is there any way that I can get my password sorted before the next update.
A probably related issue is that my Instagram account was hacked about 3 days ago and I got a scam email saying that my laptop had been accessed.
Thanks, Graham

I have started getting lots of spam emails that Thunderbird is not identifying as spam. They go through to my Inbox. Thunderbird is identfying other emails as spam and correctly puts them in the spam folder.
Examples today are from Order-Shipment and Professional Who's Who.
