I use Mail Merge frequently. I would like to be able to use and if then else statement in the TO field to select the recipient based on a conditional. I have done this in the past, and had found a reference for doing it but I can no longer find that reference. So if anyone can point me to a site that describes how to to use conditionals in Thunderbird I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

More a suggestion than a question.

I had problem to change my "sound", but finally installed a .wma sound and it works fine.

Now a suggestion: change the menu to change the sound with only a .wav sound, instead of the current BIG list. For the fun, I found the http:\\www.soundrangers.com who produced sound of the background themes installed from Windows. It's still open.

I use Thunderbird with Gmail. It has an All Mail folder storing all messages and an Inbox folder storing all incoming messages. One can archive messages by moving them to All Mail from Inbox. Can I somehow list such messages, i.e. messages that are in All Mail but not in Inbox (and not in Sent)? Looking at the search dialogue, I cannot find such option, but maybe I am missing something?

I use TB 13, believe it or not. Why? B/c I despise change -- it's streamlined, efficient, perfect. Now the pure evil known as Gmail is blocking me from downloading my messages. I hear I need to upgrade to at least TB 68 to use OAuth and surmount this problem. When I got my new comp I tried to get the new TB but it seemed so unorganized/complicated and as if it didn't function like TB13 -- the absolutely crucial and most important key function being: No need to be online to do anything. I can write a new message, save it, send it later. I can download messages when I feel like it. Read them offline. Reply to them offline. Connect when I want to and send the messages. Is this still possible with TB 68+? Create folders, again offline. I do not want to depend on being online for absolutely anything, except to send and receive messages. Can someone tell me if this is still possible using new versions of TB?

Hi

Just moving from Eudora to TBird because of recent Google login requirement change so I am an old stubborn Eudora user (obviously ;-) ).

Anyway - I would like to have the new message 'write' button open a new tab, not a new window. I did figure out how to open new incoming messages in a Tab so at least I got that right.

Is there any way to change the setting for opening a new outgoing message window/tab?

Thanks for your help. Hope this is not too annoying of a question

Hello, I've been forced to migrate from a legacy program (Microsoft Essentials Live Mail) which supported MAPI, because it has insufficient security to connect to a gmail account. Some time ago I inquired if Thunderbird supported MAPI and was told that it did support simple MAPI, which is all I require for simply sending and receiving emails via a specialty App I created in Visual Basic 6 that runs automatically on a PC running Windows 10.

As stated there has been no issues using Live Mail, until Google changed it's security requirements as of 6/6/22. To access Live Mail via the VB6 MAPI controls, I simply needed to make Live Mail the Default mailer. After installing Thunderbird [91.10.0 (64 bit)], I successfully setup the same Gmail account I was using in Live Mail, and made Thunderbird the default mailer. I tried using the VB6 app, but it declares an error when attempting to send a message. When using Live Mail, the App didn't need to be running, a MAPI-send would automatically launch a abbreviated version of Live Mail that would send the message then automatically terminate. I tried this first with Thunderbird, that gave the first error. I then tried having Thunderbird running, but a MAPI-send still failed.

After reading some of past Thunderbird posts on MAPI issues, I noticed a post that suggested my VB6 32 bit App would not be able to connect with the 64bit version of Thunderbird, that I would need the 32 bit version of Thunderbird.

I would appreciate any thoughts on what may be causing the MAPI connection issue with Thunderbird.

X. P.S. Unfortunately the VB6 App, in it's current form does not post a specific error, which would no doubt be some indecipherable MS message; It just states the operation being performed (Send) where the error occurred.

I recently started using the archive option manually, by right-clicking emails and selecting "Archive".

I've noticed that for some, very few, emails, the "Archive" option is not there.

I can manually mark it as read and move it to the archive folder, but I'm trying to work out why the option is not available as it usually is.

I've added the senders address to my contact list, and Junk filter is turned off.

I've attached two images showing the right-click context menu in both cases.

I'm running the 102.0b8 (64-bit) release.

When I view the inbox for my Yahoo account, by default it shows only Unread. The Quick filter is NOT on(see attached). If I select the Unread Quick filter the display does NOT change, except in green it shows "67 messages".

If I type All in the quick filter box it shows unread messages and a count of 163 messages.

Does anyone know how I can reset this behavior?

I previously used MS Entourage on Mac and migrated to Thunderbird as the best free alternative to what I missed from Entourage. However as my memory isn't that great it would be very useful to see if I have previously replied to an email, say that came in the last week or two. In Entourage a message displayed at the top of the email saying that if a reply had previously been made and it was hotlinked so a click would take you straight to that reply. Is that feature in Thunderbird and if not could it be added?

Thanks

I have my Thunderbird set to IMAP with my lln****@gmail account. I also have other identities (c****j@pobox.com; c****r@pobox.com, etc.). When I compose an email, I can choose which identity to use. However, the receiver of the email sees the email as coming from lln****@gmail, not the identity I sent it with. (When they click reply, it goes to the identity.) I would like my IMAP address lln****@gmail to be completely invisible to others.

How can I do this? How can others who receive emails that I send, ONLY see the identity I sent it from?

Thank you in advance for help!

I have just installed 102 thunderbird on Windows 11. There is one setting I can't find, that I swear behaves differently/'correctly' from a Linux (91.x), that is: Hover over a message in the list for a second or two, scroll down with keyboard, message goes from 'unread' (bold) to 'read' (normal font), the green 'unread' indicator goes out.

The setting I found seems to apply to a message being read, not hovered over (selected with keyboard or mouse), if that makes sense.

Also, I'd like to see a delete icon rather than needing to hit the keyboard delete, when browsing a list of messages. Possible? Or is it just hidden by my "PixelsPerPX" setting?

Sorry, go ahead and give me a "piling-on penalty" for multiple questions in the same support request.

Installed TB 102.0 (64bit). Trying to search for addons inside Thunderbird, from Addons TB tab (e.g. for Bidi add-on, which is presently not compatible with TB 102.0: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/search/?q=bidi&appver=102.0&platform=WINNT). Instead Thunderbird gives the following message: "Secure connection failed. The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified." with invitation to "Try again". No success. Running Win 10 21H1 (64bit OS), and have Avast AV (22.5.6015 (build 22.5.7263.730)), where Thunderbird is an approved App. I believe the very first time I tried to search for addons, TB 102 actually opened the addons search page, but the second time and all subsequent times it is giving the Secure Connection Failed error. Any suggestions for the cause? Thankyou in advance.
