Hello, earthlink asked me to change my password today and now...I keep getting this message: Mozilla thunderbird for earthlink…Sending of password for user orvkat@teleport.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.earthlink.net

I did change the password in password manager and it's correct (I can login to my earth account on-line fine)! I've check incoming and outgoing servers...it's all good I didn't change a thing and was working until I changed my account password for earthlink. Also, rebooted the PC still a no go... ;-) Please help...

After upgrading from a very old (but perfectly working) version of Thunderbird (24.3.0 on Windows 7) to 91.8.1 (on the same Windows 7 system), Thunderbird can no longer remember my passwords.

Apart from this everything in the new version works. Emails are retrieved fine when I enter the passwords manually.

Symptoms:

• always asks me for my passwords, even when I have checked the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox.
• no stored passwords show up in "Saved Passwords ..."
• When I try to set a primary password (I did not use one so far), I get an error "Unable to change Primary Password".

What I tried after searching for solutions:

• Remove files cert*.db and key*.db from my profile. Does not make any difference.

I was pretty happy with the FLAWLESS(!) Frontier.com Internet Service UNTIL they unfortunately hired the disorganized YAHOO-Server Service: this UNFRIENDLY YAHOO is once-in-a while interfering when I'm trying to LOGIN to my DEFAULT(!) THUNDERBIRD ...does NOT ALLOW me to LOGIN to THUNDERBIRD AT ALL ...ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! This was never an issue but the last 3 months all emails from a particular sending keep getting sent to spam. I have added the sender to my contact list. I keep marking the emails as "not junk" while they're in the spam folder and they get moved into the "inbox" but the next one that comes in goes straight to spam. What else can I do to get them to stop going into spam? I would think that after 3 months the adaptive system would have learned to adapt.

My company uses PGP for all email and Thunderbird is the primary client. The new version 78 with PGP enabled appears to force encrypting subject line. This breaks all our filtering. Enigmail allowed us to disabled subject line encryption.

Is there an option to disable this while keeping PGP enabled?

When I start Thunderbird I get the login box. If close it or just ignore it I still enter Thunderbird with full access to the accounts. Any ideas? I have just updated to 78.12.0 (32-bit). The log-in has always seemed a bit clunky, often it does not gain focus and is hiding behind other running programs, also if I have changed my mind and do not want too carry on with Thunderbird it is impossible to close the program until signing in, it would be useful if one could close it at any time. I used to be able to send emails using Thunderbird to Office365 using SMTP, but it is no longer working, although I'm still receiving emails.

Getting the following error: Login to server smtp.office365.com with username ***@*** failed

Settings Server: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Encryption: STARTTLS

The problem occurs with Windows and also Mac OS (I installed Thunderbird to help troubleshoot).

I'm using Office 365 Family, so there is no option to manage the users, as there is in the business version, and which has been suggested by others with the same problem.

It's unclear to me if the problem lies with Thunderbird or Microsoft (I suspect the latter). Any advice would be very welcome.

My junk filter is not working properly. Too many emails are ending up in the local JUNK folder. Even my own email address is affected. When I reply to an email, Thunderbird moves that email to the Junk folder. I marked it as NOT junk several times and then moved the affected emails to the correct inbox and even deleted the training data from the junk filter. Nothing so far :(

Can I reset the Junk filter settings completely somehow? I don't want to delete Thunderbird from my PC and install another email-client, but the daily junk-sightings takes too much time, as I'm working with 4 accounts in TB.

Thunderbird outgoing email no longer working have checked both settings with email provider and thunderbird. Called and talked with tech support with email provider. They claim it is a thunderbird problem. Tried new port number. Know that my settings are correct (verified by email provider). Fails do to unexpected error. Can send email via webmail.

I wanted a phone no. so I could call. Today Thunderbird decided to no longer accept my password and there is no route for getting to Thunderbird to find the problem or get another accepted password. Three days ago, Thunderbird started to give me a "Sending of password for user xxx.xxx@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

I checked that it was accurate in the Saved Passwords panel and it is. I've entered it manually and still get the error message.

When I log onto Google from any browser with this account, it accepts the password. I can then access my gmail account with no trouble. My Firefox password manager shows the same password that is rejected by TB. My Gmail Android app on my smartphone and tablet also accept my logons with the same password. Only Thunderbird doesn't. I've tried deleting my pop.gmail.com login entry and re-creating it under the xxx.xxx@gmail.com account.

I had a Google Security warning 3 days ago, so suspect somebody might have hacked the account, changed the password, but didn't save his new password anywhere, so I have no idea what new password he might have changed it to. I am going to try changing my entire Google password and see if this will allow me to reset the TB password, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have several other gmail accounts on Thunderbird and all of my accounts use the same passwords set for their accounts.google.com under the separate gmail addresses. How do I find out what to do to fix it?

I am researching various ways of improving the security of my email. And I really like the ideas of pep:

What is the official word from Thunderbird on this? It seems to me that pep is able to remove some of the complexities of encryption much in the same way as Signal Messenger.

I can not find any information here when I search for it, so I got a bit curious.

Also, pep is available for almost any platform.

My ISP = SBCGlobal.net; My email app = v 78.11.0 of Thunderbird; I also use the latest v of Firefox.

My problem is with TB, which will neither send nor receive emails; Msg = "Sending password for user me@sbcglobal.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error, please try again later." This was two days ago. I found my TB login info at tools>options>privacy&security>passwords. I cannot figure out where to go to change / reset the login password at ATT

My question is this: To fix this problem, do I change my PW on my system, then do the same at the SBC/ATT end to make the inbound.att.net server aware of the change? Is this how I should proceed? FYI: I'm a tech dippie. I need help. Tks

P.S.: I don't have an ATT account.

I cannot login onto my Gmail account, I've tried all the passwords I would normally use with no luck. It comes up with a information box and says " Login to server imap.googlemail.com with username ------@gmail.com failed", the selectable options are Retry, Enter New Password and cancel. I've tried entering a new password but it's not accepting it, just returns to the same information box. Can somebody help me log back into my email account?

I switched from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird 91 recently (clean install, Windows 10 Pro). My workplace uses Gsuite, I set up IMAP (port 993) in Thunderbird and I'm getting and sending emails just fine. Me and my colleagues use S/MIME certificates by Actalis.

The thing is, I can decrypt most of my colleague emails but there are a couple of people where Thunderbird crossed out the S/MIME icon and says "There are unknown problems with this encrypted message." In Windows Live Mail I can see it's encrypted and I can read it just fine. It's just Thunderbird that's being funny.

After switching from Windows Live Mail, I haven't done anything with the certificates. I'm not sure why it can decrypt some people but it can't decrypt others. Their certificates are all valid and they appear in the certificate manager in Thunderbird.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it, so any help would be appreciated!

I'm using Thunderbird for gmail in IMAP mode. In my IMAP folder, I have a Junk subfolder, and in my Gmail subfolder I have a Spam subfolder. What is the difference between these? Does Gmail determine Spam, and Thunderbird determine Junk? Are BOTH Spam and Junk used for the Thunderbird adaptive junk filter log?

If I view an old mail, and if the remote contents are no longer available in the server, then I cannot know the contents. Whatif Thunderbird downloads the contents (when the email is downloaded) and includes them in message itself?

I have my Thunderbird 91.8.0 (64-bit) (Fedora 35) setup to use PGP aliases- This worked well quite some weeks. Since a short time (like one week or so) I do encounter a problem:

First when trying to use an alias, thunderbird told me there was no key for encrytion found. So I checked my settings and the profile directory for the .json file containing the alias rules. It was there as expected. Trying to fix the problem I did copy the file, rename it an change the mail.openpgp.alias_rules_file value to the new name. Now it would find the file again but tell me the corresponding public PGP key is missing.

I checked using the Thunderbird integrated OpenPGP Key Manager and indeed the public key for the alias was missing. So I did try to import this key again after downloading and saving it (from https://keys.openpgp.org/) but this always throws an error which doesn't tell a reason (see picture).

Btw: I also checked the pubring.gpg file with grep and it seems like the desired key is in there (I'm not very experienced in using grep but the output was somethig like "found occurence in binary file" for: grep XXXX (name of the owner of the key) ~/.thunderbird/NNNNxrez.default-release/pubring.gpg)

Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it? Maybe there is just a format problem when trying to import from https://keys.openpgp.org/ https://keys.openpgp.org/] ? Cause I did test it with another key from there with the same result...

Would appreciate any help or tip what to try!

I did a clean install for my PC, Installed Thunderbird, added my mail account, checked "save in manager" after entering my password. After restarting the prompt keeps appearing after starting. The Password Manager has no saveds passwords.

I tried deleting cert9 and key4 and session.json, none of those helped.

I need to show the senders email address in the list of columns displayed. I have already unchecked the box in Tools--Options-Display-Advanced [to show only display names]. I have also already been using the Show Address Only plugin which worked for many version of Thunderbird, but it no longer works. [I'm using Windows 10 x64, Thunderbird latest 68.6.0 x32] I sent an email to the developer [in Russia?] today asking if he is going to be updating it to support versions 68.0.* +. However, I really think this should be a feature in EVERY email client. It is an aspect of 'email.' Anyway, I do thank you for such a great plugin regardless and hope my suggestion/request raises a discussion somewhere :). P.s. Just realized this is going to community, not the staff necessarily so just pretend you're hired for a few min. :P

If I missed a way in settings to make this happen currently, my apologies, and please let me know how.
