I have TB 115.6.0 running on 3 computers (1 desktop and 2 laptops). On 2 computers there is a tiny icon on the right hand side in the menu bar that allows me to switch between the "new and improved" (but utterly horrible), side by side message list and the classic view.

On the laptop I am currently using to write this request, TB 115.6.0 does not have that wonderful little icon and I am condemned to use the side by side display or find another mail client.

Can someone help me find or restore that little icon that gives me a choice or alternatively lets me change the message list display back to its old useful configuration?

As an aside, why do software developers insist on making "improvements" that no one needs or wants?

I have a client that sends a weekly newsletter using a list called news, it work for a long time. now he gets a error news <> is not a valid email address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email.

It works on my setup, using my email, same version of TB, different domain name but the same server. I tried rename the list to a email address news@domain.com it acts like it sends, but no one gets the email. reninstall TB on his rig, same outcome. haven't had any luck searching for an answer.

Hi,

On my previous Win10 PC when I clicked on Thunderbird it gave me a menu of my email accounts to select one. I've just moved to Windows 11 and it seems to install all the email accounts together which is a nightmare for me. How do I get back to menu selection of individual email accounts.

Thanks

I sometimes collect emails from various subfolders into a new subfolder to better reflect their topic. When I do this, I would like the order-received associated with each message to reflect the date-received, rather than the date/time I moved the message into the new folder. (The order in which I have moved the messages is pretty much irrelevant.) Once I have the messages moved and incoming-mail processing is back to normal, I'd like further order-received values to be generated as usual.

I realize that this cannot be done, in a general way, at the time I move the message: if I move a message into a long-used folder, it could possibly trigger the unwieldy regeneration of many other order-received fields. But it would be useful to be able to instruct Thunderbird, on a subfolder I constructed by populating it, to regenerate the order-received values according to date-received.

It this possible? Either for the end user, or as an enhancement.

Hi,

I've been a Thunderbird user since the days of Eudora ;-) and have a configuration question.

When you forward or reply to a message, Thunderbird currently does this: <sender> wrote on <date> <time>:

  forwarded message text

Is there a way to change the preamble line, or is it hard-coded?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Per Alessandro Castellani, Thunderbird is "bunch of code running on top of Firefox." The Thunderbird extension site opens up a new *browser* tab *within* Thunderbird itself. Following this train of thought, why can't I open links in new tabs within Thunderbird itself?

Say I have an RSS feed link that links to another article. I click on that, and a whole new browser window opens up instead of staying within the Thunderbird application. Rather frustrating to see, considering how Thunderbird *is* capable of displaying web pages.

Supposedly, extensions like Link in Tab fix this. More power to you if you've gotten them to work, but it's useless for me. I've tried fiddling with about:config and the TB config editor, but neither one worked for me. Any other resources I've come across through search is either mildly outdated (i.e. 2019-2021) or horrifically outdated (i.e. 2008-2012).

Is this feature that I'm looking for completely nonexistent within Thunderbird itself, or am I just doing it wrong this whole time and I need someone to point out the obvious solution? I am desperately hoping for the latter, but my intuition is telling me it's the former.

I have read numerous posts and replies on the forum about updating from Thunderbird (102) to Supernova (115) but there doesn't appear to be a clear method used by the majority of users to do this.

In the release notes from 115.0.1 to 115.2.2 it clearly states ' Thunderbird version 115 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 102 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions.'

However, from 115.2.3 onwards, that statement has been removed but there is nothing saying that this, or other updates, will allow you to update from earlier versions!

I am prompted daily about an update to Thunderbird via the release update channel to update to Supernova, the latest version being 115.4.3, see attached screenshot.

I could also download this latest version and run it as an exe file to update Thunderbird and there are suggestions about removing Thunderbird, installing Supernova and then changing/adjusting the profiles etc to get it working.

So my questions are:

1) Can Thunderbird be updated via the release update channel as I have always done successfully, without messing about with profiles etc?

2) If not, is there a release coming that will allow the update from earlier versions?

3) If not, then what is the best solution to do the update successfully?

Thanks for your help.

I am moving Thunderbird to a new PC, old was Win 10, new is Win 11. I installed Thunderbird on the new one, same version 115.10.2 though this is now 64 bit, old was 32 bit. I followed the instructions to move the profile by copying the Thunderbird folder onto aUSB stick then copying it to the new computer. The address book is there, but the local folders I had are not. Looking inFile explorer, I see that the Local Folders folder is there which contains all the folders I had, all populated, but there is also a Local Folders-1 there which does not, and this is the one Thunderbird is using. If I delete this folder, next time I start Thunderbird, it creates this folder again. I have obviously done something wrong, but cannot see what it is.

Missing Emails After Thunderbird Showed They Were Already Downloaded

115.05 when I started.

I typically open Thunderbird about once a month, download my emails from a hosted website, do some clean up, write some emails, close Thunderbird, and do the same about a month later.

Today I opened Thunderbird, saw that it was downloading around 400 emails in the lower left corner, and waited patiently, as per usual. When "done", however, none of them showed up in the main window. The latest email did not change, was still from around a month ago. When I ask Thunderbird to Get Messages it says there are no new emails to download.

I restarted Thunderbird several times, no change.

I then upgraded to 115.10, hoping this might fix the issue, but it has not.

Since restarting Thunderbird, 2 new emails have come in and are showing correctly, but none of the initial 400 emails "downloaded" today are showing anywhere.

I repaired the Inbox folder (right click > Properties > Repair Folder), no help. I renamed the "Inbox.msf" file and had Thunderbird rebuild it, no help. I renamed the "global-messages-db.sqlite" file and had Thunderbird rebuild it, no help. View Ignored Threads does not help. View > Threads > All is selected. Emails are not in the Trash folder, or any other folder.

All of the initial batch of 400 emails - and the emails I had previously opened - just disappeared.

Opening up the Inbox MBOX file directly, I can see that these 400 emails were never actually downloaded into this file. Not sure what happened.

Opening up my remote email host, I can see that those 400 emails are still there, to the exact point when I last closed Thunderbird.

Asking Thunderbird to download new messages does not download these remote emails.

How do I reset Thunderbird to start the process over and re-download these emails again? Part of TB seems to think it's already downloaded these emails, while another part of TB never actually did.

Does anyone have any idea what to do here?
