Hi, I am running Thunderbird v. 115.9.0 on Windows 10 on my desktop. I have been forced by Rogers in Canada to migrate my internet service from their legacy internet service to Rogers Ignite with its Ignite (Comcast) gateway. My email accounts were supposed to be migrated automatically, but, for reasons unknown, were not, and a tech support representative had to migrate them from the old legacy service to Ignite. After that was done, I opened Thunderbird, and was asked to authenticate my 2 Rogers/Yahoo email accounts, one of which is my primary account, the other a secondary account. I was asked to authenticate the secondary account first, which went well. I then clicked on my primary account in the left-hand pane and was again asked to authenticate, but the dialogue box showed it was for the secondary account. Thinking that this secondary account authentication was just being repeated for no particular reason, and not thinking that the email address in the authentication request box could be changed, I clicked Agree. My primary account is now showing the exact same emails as are listed in the secondary account, and I'm extremely concerned that I will not be able to recover all of the thousands of emails in my primary account, many of which are business-related. When I log into my primary account on the Rogers/Yahoo mail website, the emails in the primary account are still showing, so I know they are still on the Rogers IMAP server. However, I really want to continue to use my primary account on Thunderbird. I'm not sure if I should delete the primary account and recreate it - the Rogers support tech said that deleting the account may result in an issue where my current password for a re-created primary account may not be recognized, so I'm leaving things as they are until I hear back. It the advice is to not delete and recreate the account, what steps can I take to recover the emails on my primary account in Thunderbird. Thanks in advance for any help and advice that can be provided. LES.

I have installed and am running Thunderbird on my new laptop, and would like to use the profile from my old computer. I have followed the instructions provided, and copied the profile (renamed) into the folder on the new laptop. When I run "thunderbird.exe-p" I receive a message "cannot find Thunderbird.exe-p" and asked to try again, but without success. I would be grateful for help on this problem. With thanks Alan

In a nutshell, I've had problems multiplying with Thunderbird for months now. I'd reset to default settings if that was an option. It doesn't seem to be. My fear is that if I just delete the program, reinstall it, and restore all of my old profile, some of the problems I'm seeing might be transferred back. So I'm wondering if I can just delete the program, do a fresh install, and restore the important parts instead. (Messages and Contact List.) Version 115.7.0 Thanks.

I just installed Thunderbird on a computer, current version, and it didn't update my address book or contact list off the server. How do I do this manually as I could not find something saying to "download contacts" or anything like that. There is the "Directory Server:" option but I don't know what that is or how to use it. I didn't do that on my other Thunderbird installation (Work Computer). My email server is Mail.com if that matters. Thanks

I am exporting private messages from Lotus Notes (work account) to the EML format, and would like to view them in Thunderbird without associating them with an existing account. After installation, Thunderbird does not show “Local folders” unless an account is specified.

Is it possible to use Thunderbird to import and view the EML files exported from Lotus Notes only locally, that is as a simple archive not associated with an existing account? I am surprised at not finding information on this after an extensive web search. The closest I found is an article explaining how to read local mail accounts on GNU/Linux:

I see the lots of info about moving a Profile to another computer or backing it up. That seems fine. However, they all including backing up the email data along with the Profile setup, which I don't want to do (due to email data being so large in many cases).

I see all my email data is in a folder called "ImapMail" within the Profile folder. Is it possible to backup the Profile and just exclude that folder? I mean, if the Profile is transferred to another system, won't the email just be downloaded again? Or will it not work that way?

Thanks.

I installed Thunderbird yesterday and tried to connect my work account, which is a Google workspace gmail account with the organization's domain instead of gmail.com. I set the servers as smtp.gmail.com and managed to select OAuth2 for authentication (this was difficult and required me to set the port at 465). I went through the permission process with Google, which now acknowledges (in a very warning sort of way) that Thunderbird has access to my account. I even sent an email from Thunderbird, which showed up in the sent folder on the gmail account and was received by the sent to account. However, I see only an empty inbox and empty local Trash and Outbox folders in Thunderbird. It's just not syncing anything (or maybe downloading anything?) from the gmail account. I need it to sync all my mail folders and my calendars as well, so two big problems need to be solved before I can use Thunderbird at all. I sure appreciate any help I can get!

Attempts to run Thunderbird 115.12.1 in Windows 11 have failed repeatedly with error message: Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.

I lost my previous PC due to an unrecoverable hard drive crash. My current email provider is AOL and I was using the Thunderbird email app prior to the crash. According to some of the O&A posed at this site, I may have to contact AOL directly for assistance.

Please advise what information I need from them to complete the installation. I know you guys are busy and I can receive current emails from AOL at this time so there is no need to rush on my account.

I like Thunderbird a lot.

Thank you. Bob Perry

I have just completed transferring Thunderbird from Windows 10 (32 bit) to Windows 11 (64 bit). Running 115 on both machines. The transfer went well but ..... In my profile in the sub folder Mail, I ended up with 3 folders - Local Folders, XXXX.com (XXXX is the incoming sever name) and XXXX-1.com. This happened purely by chance with the XXXX-1 file containing all the data and folders off the old PC and the XXXX containing the emails from my internet provider from the time my old PC had died until the transfer.

I renamed the XXXX-1 file and opened it in Thunderbird - all the emails were there.

Seperately I did the same with the XXXX file - no emails appeared in Thunderbird.

If I click on the XXXX file then click on Inbox and open it with Notepad, I can all the new emails. The XXXX file inbox does not contain any of the old emails.

I have tried everything to open the XXXX file in Thunderbird (incluing renaming and cut/paste) all to no avail. And, of course, the emails were deleted off from my internet provider by Thunderbird when they were downloaded!

Can anyone suggest a way I can retrieve the emails off the XXXX file?

I'm moving from Outlook 2015 (ie the bought-outright version pre Office365) on W10 to Thunderbird on a new W11 PC.

I installed TB 31.8.0 on W10 system and imported contacts and emails. That all works except I get "Secure Connection Failed" for live.mozillamessaging.com. I've deleted cert*.db and key*.db files and rebooted but it hasn't gone away.

[Probably not relevant: but I'm also not receiving the confirm-your-email message from Mozilla, and could only join this forum via the time-out reminder which did get through. But my test messages arrive OK.]

(Spoiler alert: this is nothing to the problems I'm getting on the W11 install!)

Is it possible to install TB (or at least the profiles) onto an external SSD (i.e., not the C: drive)? If so, how?

Note: this is not about migration/backup/recovery of profiles.

Windows 11 is consuming nearly all of the C: drive. I badly need to get TB (and Firerfox) onto my E: drive. I further note that the installer gives no options whatsoever as to the destination drive.

I've read everything I could find here and all of that is about using an external drive as a backup. Most of the other help I've found on the web is clearly outdated.

Thanks. jt

Can current Thunderbird (52.5.2) still import old mail from Outlook Express (on Windows XP SP3)?

Or should I try to install an older version like v38.5.0?

I also have my mail in Outlook 2003 & 2007, but I read Thunderbird hasn't been able to import from a .PST for a long time (since v.17 or so). Let me know if I'm on the right track (and which track is best). I stuck with Outlook far too long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is there any way that I can import (I have a new computer and need the old emails if possible) the data from the profile? I have read many of many ways to import but to me, they seem to have one or two vital steps missing... cheers col

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). I have two different versions of Thunderbird installed on my system; one is installed in Program Files (64-bit version 125.0.0.0 dated 04/23/2024—old version) and the other is installed in Program Files (x86) (64-bit version 115.12.2.0 dated 06/25/2024—the current version). The shortcut icon on my desktop (which I never use) runs the older version located in the Program Files folder while the shortcut icon on my taskbar (and also the one in my Start menu) runs the updated version located in the Program Files (x86) folder.

As an aside, there are 21 .dll files in the Program Files (x86) folder (all starting with api-ms-win and dated 09/27/2023) while none of those files are in the Program Files folder.

FYI, I have been using Thunderbird on this PC for almost five years.

How do I fix this problem so that I have only the current version of Thunderbird run from the proper folder, Program Files?
