I'm trying to send a reply e-mail and I get this message. "Sending of the message failed. A certificate that is not yet valid was used to issue the server's certificate. The configuration related to smtp.gmail.commust be corrected." What must I do or what can I do?

About four days ago my email froze & asked for my password to activate imap.mail.yahoo.com. Everytime I enter my password it flags failed & asks for retry or new password. Finally I went directly to the yahoo mail site & logged in with the exact same password. If it works on yahoo mail but not on Thunderbird (anymore) I am at a loss. Can you help me? Thx, Doug

Our organization uses GoDaddy which worked fine with Thunderbird until GoDaddy migrated to Microsoft Exchange 365/Outlook. According to GoDaddy, Microsoft does not allow any of the authentication protocols offered by Thunderbird for SMTP outgoing messages.

Thunderbird has helpfully added a Microsoft 365 option for SMTP settings in the latest update, but when you click that it says that you have to get a third-party paid app called OWL to make it work.

My question to Thunderbird: is this going to be the only answer to this problem or is it being worked on? Background is that the organization I work with has the GoDaddy Account so I have no control over that choice. I've used Thunderbird to keep my email out of the clutches of Microsoft Outlook and would like that to continue. I've also been donating to Thunderbird for years so I'm not opposed to paying. I just don't think I should have to use a 3rd party app for basic functionality.

Comcast IP address blacklisted

New issue 2/10/24. TB (115.7.0) won't retrieve nor send emails thru Comcast. No settings or accts were changed. Went to an old restore point on Win 10, didn't help. Reset router, PC, uninstalled TB, reloaded TB, didn't help.

Reviewed past articles (most are old) tried some of those solutions, but no joy. Can't find an Xfinity (comcast) phone # to call their tech support, although I doubt if they're any help. Will blame it on TB no doubt.

Could really use some help here. Appreciate all you guys efforts!

Hi,

Hoping someone can help, I'm setting up my Gmail account and have copied all the settings over exactly from my old laptop and have generated a new 'app password' in Gmail. Thunderbird pops up a Google login page then it is saying it can't connect to the server. Everything is working fine on my old laptop with configuration exactly the same (except for the use of older but still active app password).

I don't think Google allows me to see my old app password, only generate a new one, but as the new one won't work I'm thinking that maybe Google somehow knows I'm using POP email on two machines and won't allow this until I delete the old app password. Does anyone have experience of this? Just don't want to delete the password in case it stops working on both laptops! Also note that I don't want to disable 2 step authentication as this makes my account less secure and it has been working fine for years with this enabled.

Suddenly getting error message window titled "Send Message Error" Reads" Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.peak.org failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

Checked with ISP and they have not blocked or many any changes and verified the SMTP settings are correct. Port 465 Connection Security SSL/TLS Authentication Method Normal Password.

I also at times received a Tbird window in the lower right of the screen that I couldn't using the snipping tool on to same. Says something about reducing the cache which I did to no avail, going from what I gather is a default 15 to 10.

Was sending messages without issue this morning but now can't get past the above message. Can send messages using the ISP's Zimbra webmail. They have no knowledge of Thunderbird and do not support it. I've read what I could find but didn't see anything replicating my issue.

I have used message filters for some years with complete success. Recently when an email is moved by a filter, either on initial receipt or on manual run, the message appears in the correct folder okay but is not removed from the inbox. i.e. it appears in both. If I delete it from the inbox it gets deleted from the folder as well. !! I am not aware of having changed any settings. Can anyone explain where I'm going wrong, please? John

I have been using Thunderbird on my PC's for at least 8 years. It has been reliable and easy to set up for use with multiple acccounts. However, in the last couple of weeks it keeps freezing up and the header bar tells me it is "not responding". I have tried closing and reopening the program & restarting my computer, no joy. I wonder if there was an update recently which caused this sudden bug? My current version is 115.6.1

I have been using Thunderbird for a year. It is ok, but some problems are borderline un-tolerable. I have ~3500 emails in my IMAP account. I would like to keep more for a deeper search, but ok - I could handle that. And once in a while, about every month, I am doing something and the Thunderbird decides to re-download all my messages. And it locks me out of all emails for about 2 hours while this process is ongoing. I cannot open emails, I cannot answer - nothing.

I have no "cleaning" software, I do not mess up with the database file.

Is there a way to avoid this re-download? If not, is it possible to avoid the lock-out, to get emails usable while it does it - for example, download the most recent emails first and make them visible at least?

However, when composing an email in the "To" field, I find myself having to manually enter the full email addresses of recipients. I run Thunderbird on my MacBook Pro and have it process several accounts. One of those accounts has developed a strange problem. Every time it checks the server for messages it downloads a message - the same message every time. It has been doing this for several days. If I check this account from another device I will see (and download) new messages. But the new messages do not show up in this account. I stopped and started Thunderbird - problem persists. I shut down and rebooted the laptop - problem persists. I upgraded to newest version - problem persists. Any ideas what causes this? And even more important a suggestion of how to resolve this?

After posting the question I looked at several other posts which presented similar type issues. One suggested going to the account in webmail, finding the oldest message, delete that message, and the problem resolves. I did that, used webmail, deleted the oldest message, now the account works as expected. Done know what caused it but glad that it is now working again.
