I haven't used this laptop (Win10) in a few days, but FFox just updated to 103.0.2 and the icon in the taskbar is no longer there. It's a "blank page" looking thing. Wow. After years of having FFox in my taskbar, I'm surprised by how disorienting this is. LOL.

I unpinned from the taskbar, and the icon appeared for a half second before it went away. Re-pinned, and the blank page icon is back. Creating a shortcut for the desktop works just fine, but I'm used to the taskbar.

Obviously, I can deal with this, but I thought y'all should know that this broke in the last update. At least, for me, it did.

Thanks,

 -- Lucy

It has recently come to my attention that Mozilla may not continue to support Firefox browsers installed on Windows 7 computers after Jan. 2023, when the extended support for Windows 7 ends. Is that correct?

Will Firefox continue to work, but not receive security updates after that date?

Will Firefox still work on a Windows 7 computer that gets patches from 0Patch?

Thanks!

I am having the identical problem as this person was.

https://support.mozilla.org/hsb/questions/1370443

I'm using Windows 11, Firefox 106.0.3. I have already selected "always ask." I do not see any way I can change the thing that says "Downloads." I see that there is a suggested fix, and I also see that an apparently knowledgeable person has advised against using that fix.

This is very basic browser functionality, and being unable to save to particular folders adversely affects my productivity. Is this issue being dealt with? What problems can I expect to occur in the future if I make the suggested fix?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I can't scroll with the mouse wheel in Firefox. It works fine in other browsers and programs.

If I switch to Safe Mode, the scrolling wheel works. But if I switch back to normal mode, the wheel does not work again.

I tried to switch off and switch on "Use autoscrolling" and "Use smooth scrolling" settings, but it didn't help.

Unfortunately, "Refresh Firefox…" and reinstalling browser completely did not help.

I am at a loss, please help.

I had several windows open in Firefox. These have disappeared but I'm not sure exactly when it happened.

'Restore the previous session' does not help as it only restores a single window. I need to go back in history (I have backups so can refer to older files if needed). I have checked 'session-store.backups' and have several .jsonlz4 files, ranging from early October to late October. The older versions are much larger.

Do these files contain my older session data? If yes, how do I load them to get the relevant session windows? I am not worried about losing any data since that time.

Thanks

I went into about:config and changed the following values in order to widen the scrollbar:

css. scrollbar-width was true changed to false idget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override was 0 changed to 100 widget.non-native-theme.enabled was true changed to false

Changing these values didn't widen my scrollbar. Without getting into coding, is there another way to make the scrollbar wider? (I changed them all back to the original settings when they didn't work.)

1) When I played a video on Youtube with Firefox via my computer speakers, they worked flawlessly. 2) Then I plugged in my headphones via the headphones jack, there is no sound. 3) I went to Windows settings and checked the volume mixer and tested the sound, the headphones worked. 4) I opened Edge and played a video on Youtube, the headphones work flawlessly. 5) I played a video through my media player, the headphones work flawlessly.

So my conclusion is that it is Firefox that is broken.

I closed Firefox and restarted it and tried steps 1 to 5 above, still got the same results. Firefox did not play any sound over the headphones while all the others worked flawlessly.

I restarted my computer and tried the steps again and still got the same results.

I also deleted Cookies and Site data from Firefox settings and still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Hi

I don't know what's happened to cause this, but for the last few days if I grab a torrent file online, I only get the option to save the file, no option to automatically open in my torrent client.

I have been to Firefox general settings, and Applications - "Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web or the applications you use while browsing" but .torrent is not listed. When I search "torrent" in the Applications search box, I get only "magnet" as a result, nothing for "torrent" files (see image).

Any advice on how to automatically open .torrent files from the web in my torrent client would be appreciated.

Since the last update to Firefox I have not been able to print using the system dialog. Only the new Firefox print screen comes up. How can I return to system printing dialog?

Also the ability to set print quality in the Firefox print screen does not exist. I can do copies, black or color, duplex printing, etc but not set the print quality like draft, text, photo, etc.

I also have many forms I've setup for printing and I can't access these.

Thanks, Pat

I've tried everything to fix poor picture quality when streaming "third party" videos, e.g., YouTube. Colors are washed out; weird contrast; everything looks like it's coming through a haze. Streams from Netflix, Amazon look normal. And sorry, guys, the same third party streams from YouTube et al. look totally normal in the MS Outlook browser. Have tried all kinds of settings and rebooted as well. No change.

Please advise. This problem appears to be unique to Firefox.

Hello. I have a problem with turning off google safesearch. I'm 28 years old so it's not a problem with google acc. I have same firefox on pc and on laptop. On pc and on smarthphone it's easily turning off and if i'm using edge or chrome on laptop it's also turned off, but if i'm using firefox exactly on google it's always turned on no matter what i'm do. Just in case, if i'm using for example bing search in firefox it's also turned off, likely it's always turned when i'm using google with combination in firefox. Methods that I already tried: 1) Turned off in computer settings (not worked) 2) Reinstalled browser (not worked) 3) Checked in my wifi settings (not worked) 4) Updated everything (not worked) Waiting for your help.

Firefox prefers IPv4 address in a dual-stack environment

Hi, I'm using IPv4 as well as IPv6 addresses in my home network. But Firefox uses always the IPv4 connection when I open a website. When I open the same website in MS Ed… (read more)

Hi,

I'm using IPv4 as well as IPv6 addresses in my home network. But Firefox uses always the IPv4 connection when I open a website. When I open the same website in MS Edge, the IPv6 connection is used.

I've captured the network traffic during opening a website in Firefox, which is reachable over IPv4 and IPv6. First I see two DNS queries (A and AAAA) for the domain name. Both responses containing the correct IP address, and they arrive nearly at the same time at the client. Next I can see the TCP handshake. But it's send between the IPv4 address only. No IPv6 connection was attempted.

When I run the IPv6 test at https://test-ipv6.com, the IPv6 resuls are nearly fine. Only the web browser test says "Your browser has real working IPv6 address - but is avoiding using it."

When I run the same test in MS Edge, all tests are fine.

So it seems that this is not a OS or network issue. It affects Firefox only.

What I've already tried:

  • Disabled all extensions
  • Created a new profile
  • Used the IPv6 address of the website instead of the FQDN -> Works fine.
  • Checked DNS cache of Firefox (about:networking). It contains the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the requested websites

I guess that Firefox prefers the A record for some reason. But I've no idea why. Has anybody an idea what could causing this?

Thanks.

Fine, thank you for telling me but now how do I seeing the same warning every time I start Firefox? The file in question does not exist on my computer so far as I can tell and I did a thorough search through 3.5tB of storage on the machine to make sure. How do I stop this warning?
