I had always been able to drag a tab and drop it on to the bookmarks toolbar to bookmark it, and it would show there for easy clicking. Recently though I replaced my computer, and now whenever I try to drag a tab to bookmark it just opens a new window. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? I miss having the easy access to frequent sites!

Thank you

All my bookmarks and passwords just vanished last night. No update installed, no new programs. I was watching a film from a legal subscription service and firefox crashed and when it restarted, they were gone. I have tried re importing them to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and no difference. Chrome (which i had never used) imported the bookmarks and passwords I can't see from firefox so they are still there somewhere but firefox just shows a "cannot access bookmarks" warning at the top of the screen.

I need idiot proof instructions that actually work as I have always used firefox and can't get used to a new browser but need my tabs and bookmarks and passwords back.

Firefox was updated recently and apparently it completely wiped out ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS. I need these bookmarks back ASAP for this is a business and this type of error is EXTREMELY unacceptable and costing us money. (This is a Business!!)

Your IMMEDIATE assistance is greatly appreciated.

BTW - i performed the "restore" steps you advised in your help community but all the backups are from 2019 and further back for some odd reason. And the attempts to restore any previous version comes back simply as "FAILED"

Hi again J

Older thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1284813 now closed of course.

You suggested "If you paste the following address to the address bar of a new window and press Enter to load it, you have largely the same functionality:"

chrome://browser/content/places/bookmarksSidebar.xhtml

Good idea. Yes, "largely." Then I bookmarked "that page" And then pinned/locked that 'bookmark' as a tab in my Default Session. Then ...

"You can hold the Shift key and left-click the bookmark to open the bookmark (link) in a new window. This should always work to open a link in a new window." Mozilla Support. Which it does.

Bingo. Standard browser window. Separate Window with All folders and All bookmarks in a ONE PANE in its own window, so any and all bookmarks are visible concurrently. The Browser and Bookmarks show on Taskbar as two icons for toggling ("never combine") and the critical functionality from ancient FF 3.26 (not the portable) and later via AiOS or "Good 'Ol Sidebar" is back in business. Took me awhile for the opportunity to investigate this, but I appreciate your experience and patience. Cheers!

Hi, The attached image explains the problem in 3 steps. 1. I try to add a bookmark, a pop-up window appears. OK. 2. I get a menu with some recent bookmark folders, but I want a different one, so I press "Choose folder". OK. 3. Now I need to browse among numerous folders in my bookmarks, it worked fine before, but I cannot do it anymore because the folder names are not visible! As if they are written with a white font on a white background. I can scroll, choose (blindly) some folder, which is marked by the faint rectangle visible on the image. And the bookmark will be saved to that folder indeed. But scrolling blindly through my hundred folders is obviously not practical.

The problem appeared 1-2 weeks ago, probably after a FF update. Now I updated FF to the latest version 97.0.1, it doesn't help.

A couple of months ago I did some changes in FF config in particular to make bookmarks appear more dense: newer FF versions introduced huge vertical space between bookmarks. I can't remember what exactly I did (followed some recipe on internet), but it didn't introduce any problems. The problems appeared 1-2 weeks ago. System: Windows 10.

I was trying to solve a hanging issue with firefox and following a 'tip' I changed the name of places.sq.lite to places.sq.lite.old I figured the renamed file would be there to back-up from if something went wrong and although the hanging issue seems to have been fixed I have lost hundreds of links that have taken ages to put together.

Where is sq.lite.old located as it is missing from the original folder? It is not in my recycle bin so renaming it to old hasn't simply deleted it. In another folder there are bookmark backups with dates (JSONLZ4 files) but I have no idea how to get my old links back from them, if indeed that is what they are for.

Please help.

I'm using Firefox 100 on Win10 and can't save any bookmarks. They do NOT appear under the App Data Profile, which would not be acceptable even if they were. This change has made it impossible for me to continue using Firefox, unless I want to go back to Win7.

I simply need Bookmarks to work the way they did before!

Thank you for your time.

In my address bar I only enable bookmarks and my browser learns what websites I visit most and ensures they are prominently displayed. Egxample, a search of Y would bring up YouTube.com as my first result on the drop-down menu. Recently I noticed that when I now clear my browsing history it also removes the memory of my personalized address bar autocomplete url searches and reverts to a standardized dropdown menu not aligned with my personalized searches. Does anyone know how to cleat history without affecting the address bar autocomplete list

Firefox updated automatically to v.95.0 (64-bit), Windows 10, on December 8, 2021 at 1:09 PM.

Since the update, all my Bookmarks are missing. All attempts to restore them have failed (using the Menu->Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks->Import and Backup->Restore option). My toolbar settings are: Bookmarks Toolbar->Always Show and Show Other Bookmarks.

This is a critical loss for both business and healthcare purposes. I would appreciate an immediate and viable solution.

I opened up Mozilla and noticed that my bookmarks bar was empty and can't figure out why my bookmarks are "gone" (but still registered by Firefox), or how to put them back into my bookmarks bar. The only thing I can think of that might have caused this is that I accidentally clicked on the "Import bookmarks" button at some point during the last time I was using Firefox, but I'm not sure if that would cause my bookmarks to disappear.

Is there any way to restore my bookmarks bar?
