The recent update to the Firefox browser on my Mac now defaults to the search bar at the top of the page as I type and provides a stream of unhelpful suggestions. Previously I was able to type in what I was looking for in the Firefox search bar in the middle of the screen unhindered until I had completed the sentence and then press search. I would like to reset it back to that. I have tried to change it via Preferences but it didn't work. Thanks for any help. Trekker.

I just installed version 89.0, and I would swear that my top bar went from one bar (containing the tabs, the address line, home button, fwd and bk arrows, etc) to 2 bars (the top bar containing the tabs and the bottom bar containing everything else). Is there a way to put everything on one bar?

Subject says it all. "How to revert to 'browser.tabs.ontop=false' functionality in Firefox 89.x?" I hate the Proton layout where tabs are now positioned at the top. I want to revert to what I had before — via an add-on, I think — because the new style creates visual dissonance. I HATE the new style. I want a layout that does not do my head in. I do not care that someone(s) in the development team thinks tabs.ontop is better; it is not better for me.

I am facing a strange issue where the Browser doesn't load the website for a minute and shows server error. However, this behavior is not specific to any website and the server error shows randomly. Sometimes the browser loads the website normally while other times it shows server error. Please check this screencast: https://jmp.sh/jEu4D9k to understand better. So, I initially tried to open calendly.com and it didn't load despite my multiple reload attempts. However, when I tried to reload it after a minute then it came to life.

I have been facing this issue for many months and I tried almost every solution I found on Mozilla community pages like Resetting Mozilla, Setting No Proxy, Turning Off IPv6, DNS Prefetching Changes, Turning On/Off hardware acceleration, Uninstalled Mozilla and Installed a fresh copy, Changed to Mozilla Developer Edition, etc. but no luck. Please note that the other browsers are working fine and don't have any issues.

The new base system theme for FireFox is not accessible. I cannot visually tell when one tab shifts to another. Three's not enough contrast. There's no line that marks the shift from one tab to the next. I tried countless contributor themes and they're all lacking the same feature - a physical break between tabs. Fades on text are also not accessible. Please fix this issue!

New theme is absolutely not contrasting. The font merges with the background, no separators are visible between the elements, although the tabs opposite are separated from the page. And a huge number of other annoying little things. You suggest choosing a different theme, but there are the same problems and an additional annoying background pattern.

Please make it possible to return to the classic theme and stop changing the interface and familiar controls. I am shaking from every update notification, because i expect everything will break again.

I also advise you to read reviews on news sites dedicated to this update. Many people unhappy with these changes.

I found a partial solution (about: config -> browser.proton.enabled -> FALSE ) problem, but as it became known, it will soon stop working.

I understand that FireFox a free product and I would shut up, but it upsets me that the tool that I have been using almost all my life has gone bad. And second, and even worse, the Internet is increasingly dominated by Chrome, remaining without competition.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been having an issue with web pages and emails showing my type all scrambled. I can't recall changing any settings. I am running MacOS Mojave 10.14.6, and Firefox 89.0. I have a screenshot attached to show what it's doing. If I close and then reopen Firefox, then it's fine, but not for too long. Within a 1/2 or so, I have to close and restart all over again. Any help is appreciated!

I just updated to FF89. When I start typing in the search bar located in the New Tab page, the cursor jumps to the address bar and I get the search suggestions in the address bar. In previous versions of FF the cursor stayed in the New Tab page. How can I go back to the old behavior?

Thanks!

Hello, it has been some time now. I'm using Firefox 89 on iMac. Some sites' pages become grey and you don't know what that is until you use another browser and find that it's the accept all cookies question on every site you go. Problem is that sometimes you don't see that button and the page becomes grey, it's somewhere maybe but you can't see it and can't click it. How is that possible? That happens evens if I change the settings in cookies management in security and privacy.

Feedback or Requests to Firefox devs: Update Firefox Update system for platform specific releases

I request a new FireFox update system be adopted. For platform specific releases, the version checker first checks to see if a particular letter (or number) exists, if yes and the version is different (or higher) it becomes a platform specific sub-version release. Example: for Windows specific releases, the version-checker looks to see if ‘w’ exists, if yes it is Windows platform specific. If not but the version is different or higher then it is a universal update. Same principle applied to each platform. This means mac & linux users are not being nagged multiple times a day to update to a version that has no applicable changes to it for their platform. At least two of the previous three updates have been Windows specific updates, not applicable to other platforms. By the looks, some of these minor updates might only apply to 1.2% (or much less) of Windows users whom actually use that tool or function. This update system change is so simplistic and should only require one extra line of code in the update-checker. Of course, platform specific devs would need to remember to add the platform specific key to the version of the sub-version release and also the version file online.

I’ve been wanting to make this request for a while but the FireFox Feedback option has been disabled for a period of time. Any other avenues to make this request?

Hi,

I recently had to "refresh" Firefox after internet connectivity issues (Firefox would randomly be unable to connect to the internet for several minutes at a time, many times throughout the day). A refresh seemed to take care of that connectivity issue, but it did reset everything else. I'm having issues now where Firefox is automatically logging me out of accounts that I would normally be logged into all the time. Passwords don't autofill anymore when I attempt to re-login to this accounts (even though post-refresh I have opted for Firefox to remember them).

"Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" is currently UNchecked, and besides that, I haven't quit Firefox. I've put my computer (mac) to sleep several times but I don't quit firefox when I do this.

Any other ideas? I've used Firefox for years without a single issue but have had several things pop up over the course of the past month that are making it a bit inconvenient...

Thanks in advance-

How can I restore the old style of highlighting text--grey background behind black text? It's being highlighted, but I can't see it. Happening with Firefox and Thunderbird.

This happened when I more-or-less simultaneously updated to macOS Mojave (10.14.6}, Firefox 89, and is also happening with Thunderbird (but I can't tie it to any specific update).

Is this an issue with Firefox and Thunderbird, or with Mojave?

I've lost all my history prior to the current date. I think yesterday too, I only had the days history and nothing else. This may have started with the new firefox update, but I'm not sure, I wasn't paying attention. It's not in my settings to delete history every time I close firefox. All my bookmarks are still there, its just a problem with my browsing history. It seems like the "recently closed tabs" keeps better track of the days history than my actual history tab. I'll probably lose todays history tomorrow. Not sure why this is happening~~ help
