Firefox has begun opening very [very!] slowly, as well as crashing and freezing during use. This is happening on all of my three machines, two running Win 7 and one Win 8. I have tried refreshing and disabling hardware acceleration, but to no avail. Now it seems to freeze on opening and takes a minute or two even to become responsive, if at all. When I look at Task Manager during a freeze I see the Firefox process is using 35-50% of memory [i have 8GB, 12GB and 16GB] and up to 50% of processsor resources. All has been fine until the last couple of weeks. As an adjunct, in the last month I have noticed an almost permanent error message on the status bar - "Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."

Are there any white text on black background color schemes that are complete? My search bar background color is bright white. My Unsorted Bookmarks Library window background is glaring bright white, can't see a thing in it.
I researched the issue and figured out how to change the URL address bar text and background color, using userChrome, but haven't been able to find anything on changing the Unsorted Bookmarks Library window background color or the search bar background color.
I haven't searched for the search bar background color, yet. Hopefully that one is easier to find than the Unsorted Bookmarks Library window background color setting.

I was using firefox when the prompt came up "firefox needs to update... and will reopen in a few moments". Firefox never reopened Instead I received an error message "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox class not registered". I have uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox , reinstalled and still receive the same error message "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox class not registered". When I reinstall firefox it never opens its always comes up with the error message. Any solutions?

Firefox hangs many times.It's very annoying. It crashes after a pop up which says :

I updated the flash player another day but still this problem continued. Some other day a similar kind of pop up came but it didn't said anything about Shock wave flash but it is a script problem.Firefox always hangs because of some script problem. When i open Windows media player, Photoshop on the other side..Firefox hangs. I never had any problem with Firefox before.

Tried safe mode, still same thing. No videos will play. Was fine this morning, but tried to watch CNN video and it would not play. Spinning circle just jumps around, doesn't spin. YouTube won't play either.
Portable version from Portable Apps works fine.

When I updated to Firefox 25.0.1 all my add-ons were gone so I downloaded some of them again. My problem is with Flashgot when I downloaded it I can add the Flashgot (thunderbolt) sign to the toolbar, but the Flashgot media icon (which looks like a cinema reel) is not visible.
So basically when I try to add add-ons I right click on the Firefox toolbar which gives me the option to "remove or add items" by dragging them. So I dragged Flashgot media (called FG Media) (which is not visible in the menu by the way) and predictably was not visible on the Firefox add-ons toolbar
Anyone know what's up?

Although other (already closed) threads indicate that customizing bookmark icons is not possible, especially with versions above 22, it is possible, but not at all obvious.
Even though I have done it, I am not clear on the entire process, specifically the "icon data" part of the following... but, it does work and the following example was tested on version 28 of "Nightly"
The icon references can be included in a simple html file and imported into bookmarks.
The following is a sample of one for a mailto: =

The above is the only thing in the imported html file... no headers, etc are necessary.
I _think_ the above "icon=data..." can be used with any icon file and it will regenerate after import... it's been too long since I sorted this out the first time. The above icon file is a 32x32 solid blue square.
Assuming you have bookmarks that have icons, you can export your bookmarks to an html file, then open that file with a text editor to either copy examples or edit them to add your own local icon file references.

What the moderator, cor-el, did not understand and the poster could not seem to explain is that it is not Firefox's autofill that is the cause of the problem. So, clearing the forms history will not fix this issue.
It is Firefox's reaction to Facebook's attempt to present a dropdown list of friend and page suggestions for addition to your comment the same way it would if you typed "@" first. FB's attempt to make things simpler for it's users by doing this without the "@" symbol seems to be causing a conflict in Firefox that totally freezes the browser. "Mozilla Firefox (Not responding)" is displayed and no amount of waiting changes things. No option for a crash report or anything but to close it.
It happens randomly when typing in a comment or status, usually after 2 or 3 letters into a word that matches the first 2 or 3 letters of someone in your friends list or liked/followed pages/groups or even other commentators. Unfortunately, for me, that means even typing "the" can cause this issue. As far as I can tell, there is no way to turn this off in FB's settings.
I understand that this is caused by Facebooks implementation of the feature, but it is my hope that someone at Mozilla can offer a fix or patch for this since it's unclear how many FF users are affected and it may take some time before FB addresses the issue.
Please help. I would really prefer to not have to type my comments in Notepad before pasting them on FB.

in the process of installing "malwarebytes" for additional protection, the Norton toolbar on firefox was reduced in size by the lose of my "vault " option. This prompted the reinstallation of Notion securities suite which then prevented the opening of firefox. Internet explorer works fine but I have used firefox for years so why change. Firefox now won't open (even after being uninstalled and downloaded and reinstalled. The message appears "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded , etc." Following your forum instructions, I did locate a profile file with the word "profile" imbedded. The word "profile" in the path stream is preceded by an odd name (like a foreign name). Path= "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bzjajhor.default-1419035389504". Can and should this file be renamed?

Procedures I've followed to resolve problem: 1)Started Firefox in safe mode. 2)Reset Firefox. 3)Uninstalled Firefox using "YOUR UNINSTALLER". 4)After uninstalling Deleted folder: C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla 5)Re-installed Firefox. 6)Uninstalled Google Chrome. 7)Updated Adobe Flash Player. 8)Updated Shock wave Player. 9)Deleted and Re-installed Adobe Flash Player and Shock wave Player.
NO RESULT FORM ABOVE PROCEDURES
Failure attempts: 1)Tried to delete/remove Addons, But unfortunately there is no option for removing or deleting Addons. and that is annoying!
As diagnosed by myself: The problem might be because of some Addons but I am unable to delete any addon.(Not Sure) YouTube is streaming videos in Google Chrome and IE.

Things I have tried 1. switching from FF 32bit to 64bit 2. disabling HW acceleration 3. updating video drivers 4. safe mode (crash still happens)
Used to work fine and seems to have happened after latest update to FF. though I suspect it is not solely a result of this since I have another PC which is working fine. Since this happens on my work laptop, which is in a semi controlled configuration, the 'well ... check the differences' is not a useful approach since there are way too many of them and I do not have the luxury of going one by one, disabling/unintsalling and seeing if the problem goes away
any help is appreciated.

Its like I'm just using a browser instead of using something I can develop web pages with (please don't ask if I'm familiar with VS2015, why don't I just keep using it? It's a sore subject with me.) I probably going to feel like a fool when you tell me how I can access the text editing function, but I can't do any editing. I'm typing this in the 32bit Firefox I've been using for years. instead of the Developer's Edition.
