After update to 78.8 Inbox stuck on Checking Mail Server Capabilities...

I've shut down and restarted both Thunderbird and my OS (Mac Sierra).

Long time working IMAP email account now is no longer showing any new messages in any of my account folders. Both server and local folders have plenty of space. No permission changes.

In the bottom left corner I always see the message "Checking mail server capabilities". I can send messages via SMTP but I cannot receive any new messages.

No errors in Activity Manager. Considering rolling back but now wonder if my profile is already corrupt somehow post upgrade.

I have other IMAP accounts connected to the same server and configured identically w/ the only difference being the domains, user and pass. The other IMAP accounts work but my daily driver account does not.

Any suggestions outside from starting over from scratch? Thank you.

When I attempt to download new mail I get the error message :

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.telstra.com responded: no such message."

Based on similar archived articles I logged into webmail and completely removed ALL mails. Trash folder is empty in webmail.

Still getting the same message. Webmail has no mails yet Thunderbird is failing when "downloading message 1 of 4". Suggestions?

Hi,

For the last 3 days I have been receiving the same pop up about a calendar event I am not even aware of and it will not go away no matter what I click on. It just keeps coming back and I can't use Thunderbird. I am concerned about uninstalling Thunderbird and reinstalling since I don't know if my email history et al will be there upon reinstall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just added 2 gmail accounts yesterday to Mozilla Thunderbird. I'm fairly new to Thunderbird, but I was pleasantly surprised that all went well, and I received/sent mail from/to those accounts.

Today I sign into Thunderbird, and it retrieved the emails fine. However, it would not send emails. It kept popping up a box to enter credentials for that gmail account. I entered the email address, but it will not move past that screen. It just keeps reloading the "Enter Email or Phone Number" screen for gmail.

What I have already done (after researching):

 -Access to less secure apps is already turned on for both accounts.
 -I changed authentication method to OAuth2 for both accounts.
 -I have updated to the most recent Thunderbird version: 78.8.0

I have restarted Thunderbird after doing all of this, and each time I try to send the draft, the screen to enter credentials pops up again, and the loop continues, never letting me enter the password. Now it will not even check my gmail email account for new mail without that screen popping up. Please help! I don't know what changed.

As the subject states, in the last few days I have been experiencing this very annoying phenomenon. I can start youtube, pick any video from recommended or my subscriptions, but aftery using the search bar to look up anything else, the whole browser freezes for at least 30 seconds but usually more. This started on maybe Sunday. Any tips? I have hardware acceleration disabled, but tried it both ways. I have cleared cache/history/cookies. Haven't tried a refresh yet and wouldn't want to if there's any other solution. Any tips to fix this?

Yesterday I was using Firefox normally (browsing, Discord, etc.). Today when I opened it, it wouldn't load any page. If I type something in the adress bar it will auto-complete or show suggestions based on google, but when I hit enter, nothing happens. It doesn't even try to load anything. I also can't go into options. When I click on the options button, nothing happens. I am not running in any compatibility modes. I have tried reinstalling Firefox, didn't help. I am not using any add-ons. I have done several virus searches. Other browsers work fine. I'm running out of ideas now, that's why I'm doing this post.

I searched for a phrase and the search results showed two messages were found with that phrase. Normally, when I click on the subject line of a found message, the message opens in a window of a new tab. But for these two messages I just found, the new tab opens but nothing shows up in the window. The information about the message that would show the Location it is in is not there. Why does it show in the results but I can't get at it?

Hi, I am having a few issues with mail in Thunderbird: 1.I can't change the footer in html - I set it, but after reopening the program, the previous settings remain. The ok button is not displayed for me - i.e. I cannot confirm the change. How can I fix it? 2. I can't add another email account. I have 8 e-mail accounts set up and when I add another one appears, downloads messages, sends and everything works fine. This account is missing when the program is reopened. 3. popstate.dat files appeared in one of the email accounts. There were a lot of them, so I removed them because they were bothering me. Unfortunately, along with these files, e-mails from 2018 to 2019 (i.e. from the founding of Thunderbird until the end of 2019) disappeared from files. Moreover, even though the account is set to POP3, the e-mails also disappeared from the server. Is there any possibility of their recovery? Was it a mistake to delete popstate files? What should be done with them so that they do not appear under folders in the e-mail? 4. After deleting popstate files, when I send mail, there is a problem with saving the message: There is not enough space on the disk to download new messages. Try to delete old messages, empty the trash, then organize your mail folders and download the mail again". Where and how can I set this message not to appear? I set "use manual cache management", but I cannot confirm it with the ok button (because I do not have the button in the view) and when I open the program again, I have different (old) settings.

Hi everyone,

My Windows 10 Firefox updated to 86, and I noticed a change in how some jQuery Mobile controls are rendering.

If you go here and scroll down to the 'Checkboxes' section: https://demos.jquerymobile.com/1.4.5/forms/

You'll see that the control group is no longer rendering with a block display style. Previous versions, along with all versions of Chrome, Edge, etc, have them taking up the entire container width. I have attached a few screenshots for convenience.

I can work around this in my product, but this may be a canary in the coal mine of many other display differences. If you have any thoughts I'd love to hear them.

I am currently running thunderbird v68 on 4 linux (Xubuntu AMD64) machines using the same profile which is synchronised from machine to machine. However this profile is getting to be unwieldy and contains a number of inconsistencies and anomalies. For example it still thinks it's got emails from 2013 although these were offlined and deleted 7 years ago. History, cache and deleted items are cleared out and folders compacted daily yet the profile (excluding 1.9GB in the mail folders themselves) is still about 1GB a large chunk of which is in global-messages-db.sqlite. I could create a fresh profile but with 6 POP3 inboxes and an IMAP account plus a dozen or so addressbooks accumulated over the last 20+ years it's a bit of a daunting task. Is there any neat way of refreshing the Thunderbird bit while leaving the user data intact or at any rate restoring it automatically? Tks in anticipation of your help jg

Started yesterday March 1st. Linux Mint Firefox 86 Brother HLL 2300 printer

Was working fine day before. Went to print and it stops after (it appears) to start sending to the printer. Pops up an error message. Run diagnose and it returns with "The printers state message is "Filter Failed"

Prints fine with any other browser of software.

I have tired all the reset printers instructions on here. Including editing the config file.

I am using Thunderbird 78.7.1 (64-bit) on Ubuntu, dark theme. On some incoming email, it is white text on white background. I believe this is email that the sender has created on outlook. I have to highlight the text to read their email. Is there a fix for this on my side? Same with any theme I try. Under fonts and colors I went to colors and set Override the colors specified by the content with my selections above to "always" but it changed the Thunderbird menus and made them unusable. Tried "only with high contrast" option with no change.

I was using my browser just fine until today. Whenever i open it, the whole window becomes corrupted. Its impossible to read the screen when its in that state. However, when i open it on safe mode, the screen its just fine. No corruption or anything. I already cleared the startup cache, closed tabs and checked for updates and nothing seems to work. I installed the snap version of firefox from ubuntu software and its just as corrupted as the integrated one. Please i need help. Here's the log from normal mode and safe mode

Hey,

on one of my notebooks (Thinkpad E495) FF occasionally crashes. This started happening a few months ago. Before I've been using FF on the same machine for years without any issues. It's pretty random but usually happens at least once a day, usually shortly after startup or wakeup from hibernate mode. A while ago it used to even crash back to back twice in a row meaning after I reopened it, it immediately closed again and only worked after I selected to restore the previous session after the 2nd reopen. Nothing is registered under about:crashes and I don't see any errors in the system event log.

I already tried to disable hardware acceleration and reinstalled FF completely without any addons besides a different adblocker. I cannot really reproduce the crash in safe-mode but don't really want to browse the web for possibly hours without an adblocker.

Any ideas what this could be or what else I could try? Maybe downgrade to a previous version?

When viewing gmail with my personal account, Firefox is crashing after it loads the conversations in the sidebar.

I have tried resetting, using a private window, and running in Safe Mode

I can repeat this at will. I will try disabling the conversations bar using another browser and then update to see if that helps (it's not crashing when I view my work gmail).

Hi, I'm having login issues on a website. I use Firefox for my browser. I have a couple of add-ons and VPN. I have disabled them but it still does not work. I have tried Safari with no VPN and no joy there either. I have cleared all cookies, cache history, put tracking protection at standard and cleared cookies from the Profile Folder (read the article on Mozilla about this issue). I have taken Firewall off Mac and tried it withiut VPN. Still nothing. I have checked my ipad without vpn. I can login on that on Firefox (without vpn) but I want to use my macbook if possible.

It's strange because I managed to log in on the website first time no problem and then I logged out and back in again and it wouldn't accept the password change. it's for a course and the people organising it have reset the initial password again but I still can't log in (they can do it with my username as they have sent me a video showing me they can and saying that it must be my end).

I have previously had a login problem with another website with a 403 error but that works without vpn. This doesn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
