For a few months, I have encountered an issue with videos playback on my browser. On most websites (including Reddit, Dailymotion, and even some videos on YouTube), whenever I scrub back a video, it will stop for about ten seconds, while the audio keeps playing.

My current extensions are: Metamask, Bionic Reader, uBlock Origin, Return Youtube Dislike, and TWP Translate Web Pages. I have tried using Troubleshooting mode, but the problem persisted, so I think it's not because of my extension.

My OS is Opensuse Tumbleweed, with Firefox version 155.0.3. I didn't have this issue with Firefox ESR on my previous Debian 11 installation. I hope someone can find a solution for this, as it is extremely troublesome switching to Chrome whenever I want to watch videos.

HOW to Edit HTML files with Firefox similar to IE11 in the past?

I've been searching for a solution on HOW to edit HTML files (for websites) on my new laptop. I used to use IE11 (Internet Explorer 11), on Windows XP / 7 (32 bit), which worked spot on, the steps were as follows: (I write websites from scratch most of the time) 1) Click on, say, index.html 2) IE11 shows the actual page 3)Click on View/ Source 4)The source code shows up in Notepad 5) Edlt the code, Save and click Reload the webpage. You can straightaway see the changes.

Currently my new laptop runs Win 11 pro, Microsoft does NOT support IE11 anymore, I can however run IE11 as a add-on, BUT it does not work very well . I also tried a couple of free dedicated editing programs also, BUT they are exceedingly clumsy to use and can't equate to the old IE11 at any level. Somewhere I read that Firefox ( i have v115) can emulate what IE11 could do, hence I am on this forum posing the question, as i can't find the solution,

Anyone in the same boat?

Please share your ideas, Many thanks

After removing elements from a website with another add-on, I'm left with a considerable white gap at the top.

I can manually change (pointless) the margin-top property to -100px, but how do I do this with the Stylus add-on?

Stylus doesn't like negative values:

margin-top -100px

10:20 Expected "{" but found "-100px".

Is there a lighter/simpler alternative to Stylus?

I noticed that someone else had this question, but instead of answering it, it just got archived.

When browsing Youtube, the browser Back Button doesn't work. For example, if I start on the Youtube main page, then click on a video, it will show the video. But then, when I click the browser's "Back" navigation buttion, it does not take me back to the main page. The URL in the address bar will be the main page, but it will continue to display the video I just watched instead.

This only seems to happen on Youtube. It's been a problem for a while - possibly as much as 2 years or even more. And it doesn't happen every single time. However, it has been happening a lot more frequently lately.

It's almost as if Firefox just doesn't want to refresh.

I've tried clearing the cache. The problem persists. I've dried disabling all add-ons. It still happens. I've tried running it in troubleshooting mode. Still a problem.

I've tried to duplicate this in Microsoft Edge; it doesn't seem to happen there.

Hi.

Whenever I click a button on the keyboard, the CTRL+F function comes up on it's own. I had previously disabled it because it ruins all shortcuts on youtube and with tourettes, I often also get thrown around if I am reading long articles, because of misclicks.

Unfortunately I did the big mistake of updating, also with a tourettes-missclick, so my question is: 1) How do I remove the 'quick'-search function? I want the Ctrl+F bar to come up ONLY WHEN I CLICK ctrl+F, and I want it to go away again if I click ctrl+F again. I forget how to do it. 2) How do I remove all future update prompts? Given that it has been made so hard to configure firefox into something tolerable, I don't want to throw all my setup away with minor updates always thrown at me. It takes me a long time every time there's an update, I have to fix language and other stuff back again. It's just not worth it in time for me to use Firefox, if I have to make a setup so often. 3) Recommendations for the best version of Firefox to go back to and stay in for eternity, alternatively, browsers that does not change or add functions without first asking the user... (The answer is no, by the way, I don't want more new fancy functions)

Sorry for this nagging but I simply can't use my browser like this. It's just not working.

When I play a video in fullscreen, there is a strange black border that appears around the video which makes the content smaller than it would otherwise be. This border does not display in Safari or Chrome, just in Firefox. It also occurs in every media player I've tested, including YouTube and Netflix.

Annoyingly, I can't get this to show up in a screenshot. It seems like Firefox guesses the aspect ratio or resolution wrong when it puts media in fullscreen, and it has the effect of downsizing the actual interactive part of the display. Meaning, I can't move my mouse into the border area to take a screenshot of it.

I'm on an ARM Macbook running MacOS 13.5, if that matters.

Is this a bug, and/or is there a way to fix this?

Reposting from https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/firefox-upgrade-from-115-116-results-in-broken-screen-capture/121964

Howdy folks!

I am on Arch Linux and recently upgraded Firefox from 115 to 116 and this broke WebRTC screen capture. Whenever I try to share my screen in Microsoft teams and Google Meet, the participants only see a black screen with a cursor. I am able to reproduce the issue on this test page. I had to downgrade to 115 in order to “fix” this critical feature. Before that it was broken in 114 and I had to use Chromium for presentations. I no longer want to touch Chrome with a 100 ft pole since they are trying to introduce Web Environment Integrity.

The only bug I have been able to find is from three years ago:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1640771

I don’t want to add a “me too” comment, but was wondering how to show/give my support to get this issue fixed? It is crippling to my work workflow, and I don’t want to be on 115 forever. I am an engineer so I can provide advanced support to a Firefox dev, just not development as firefox is gargantuan beast of a code base.

Any guidance or pointers would be appreciated, Thanks!

I am a backend developer (API maintainer) and I use firefox as my primarily browser at work. A feature that I would find very useful would be that firefox prettifies the "Form Data" under the "Request" tab when a request is selected under the "Network" tab in the developer tools, and with prettify I mean to display in multiple lines and highlighted properly (for a comparison example you can take the "Postman" application feature under the "raw" tab).

As of now it only displays the form data in a single horizontally scrollable line and it also has a "Raw" toggle.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

Prior to getting some desktop PC upgrades that required a new install of Windows 11 and a new install of Firefox, I backed up my entire PC (yea!).

Now that I have re-installed Firefox, I see that I have none of my saved bookmarks and so I want to restore the Firefox profile - all of it or at least the bookmarks.

I have tried following the Firefox instructions for this, but am apparently not doing it right.

I can't seem to locate the bookmarks file, for starters, in my backed up files. I find the profile but I don't find anything like places.sqlite.

Can someone help me so that I am locating the right (and complete) files, copying them correctly, and then switching to the new/old profile correctly?

Thanks in advance.

I had something like 7 windows open 10 minutes ago (yes I am a tab hoarder). I was trying to run a game that used a lot of RAM, so I decided that I would close ALL of my firefox tabs in hope that the game would run smoother with the 5gb that Firefox was using. I didn't think anything of losing the tabs because I had accidentally closed windows in the past using the big red 'x', and an easy ctrl + shift + t always restored the entire window no problem. When I tried to open firefox again within the next 5 minutes, only 3 of the windows restored themselves, I assume using the general > startup > open previous windows and tabs setting. Using Ctrl + Shift + T did nothing to restore them. Please help, as the windows that did reopen were the ones that I cared the least about.

After updating a W10 laptop from 115 to 116 of FF the user started having problems with getting to different websites (sites they worked on/with regularly). The problem is the cert DB. The doc I found says that it is cert8.db. Actually it is now cert9.DB.

What I had to do was go to task manager and kill a task that was holding the cert9.db file. Then I could rename it (cert9.old.db). Then restarted their laptop and FF came up and started fixing the cert file (as expected). This seems to have fixed their problem.

When I go into fullscreen on firefox macos, hovering near the top shows the traffic lights (fullscreen, minimize, close window buttons) and moves everything down. This may be expected behavior, but it is very annoying as when you try to open new tabs the tab bar moves out of the way of the traffic lights, and the traffic lights area is around the size of the tab bar. Is there any way to make the traffic lights always visible or keep them from moving?

I have four active Firefox windows, each with quite a few tabs. I have been closing and re-opening Firefox with no issue until today. Earlier this week I updated my Mac OS to Ventura 13.5, and Firefox was still operating normally after the installation (closing and re-opening with all windows and tabs intact).

Today however, when I restarted Firefox, no windows opened automatically. I closed and restarted a few times, and finally one window opened intact; however the other three windows (still dispalyed on the "Windows" menu) refuse to open. When I look at my Firefox app on my iPhone, it also shows all the tabs intact.

What can I do to get these to open? I am running Firefox version 115.0.3.
