In the Flatpak version of Firefox 103.0.2 the resize handles do not appear when you hover over any of the 4 edges of the firefox window unless you hold down the left mouse button, then they appear, but you have to get the mouse pointer just right before pressing the left mouse button. I notice on several forums that this has been like this for the last 2 months, are the team at Mozilla working on a fix, cheers

Hi,

I've been using the following in userChrome.css for many years

  1. menu_close { display: -moz-box !important; }

to restore "Close Tab" in the File menu, based on cor-el's response regarding restoring menu_bookmarkAllTabs here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/799856

This stopped working some time ago and I am finally getting around to asking why.

I do have toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets set to true, and other items in userChrome.css are working.

I am using 121.0 at home and 115.0 ESR at work and see the same (i.e. no "Close Tab"), in both cases on Debian testing. I do see this menu item when using the keyboard to open the File menu.

Any idea why this no longer works?

thank you, Greg

I use Firefox on Linux Debian 11 (Bullseye). After a recent automatic update to Firefox 91.10.0esr, some websites will not load (just sit with a blank page, showing flicking loading symbol). Examples are ocado.com and abelandcole.co.uk. I have tried all the usual things to fix, including, switching off VPN, clearing cookies and caches, running in safe mode, all with no success. Both sites run fine in Vivaldi and Brave. I have eventually got the pages to load by disabling IPv6 in Firefox. Clearly there is a problem with 91.10.0esr. I'm not sure whether the workaround of disabling IPv6 might cause other problems or weaken security or privacy?

When I click a link on page, or an app tries to open a tab (eg to print an ebay invoice), it opens and immediately closes the first time, but stays open the second time. It's really annoying.

In troubleshoot mode, it doesn't happen.

I am using FF109.0 and Linux Mint - 001-1.0 fresh install on new HD.

I had the same problem last year after I upgraded FF but did fix it eventually (can't remember how) Thanks

On certain websites I notices I have 'unknown errors' when trying to log in.

Usually this is remedied by either using Chrome or clearing cookies and the cache.

Both of there are inconvenient and result in a great deal of wasted time.

The usual response by these websites is "get Mozilla to fix this".

I'm getting sick of this.

I don't want to switch to Chrome but I will have to if this persists.

I run wxmaxima on ubunbtu 20.04. The help menu option calls up firefox (v 101.0.1 (64 bit)) to find the local on disk html files. However this brings up the error message:

File not found

Firefox can’t find the file at /usr/share/maxima/5.45.1/doc/html/maxima_singlepage.html#g_t_0025.

But this is a valid path with user access permissions and the file maxima_singlepage.html exists and has user read permissions.

So what is firefox doing in looking for this file?

I have used the ms windows 10 version of wxmaxima and the firefox help works perfectly.

Frequent crashes (FD exhaustion?) in Firefox 107 & 108 (via snap) on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS

For the past month or so, I've been experiencing frequent Firefox crashes.

They most often happen when I've just opened a page in a new tab, it's painted, and I make the first input trying to interact with it: all tabs will stay rendered and viewable, but otherwise unresponsive. But now they're also happening when Firefox is in the background. The frequency is about once or twice per day, with heavy use.

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (jammy) with all packages up to date, the linux-oem-22.04 kernel package (currently 5.17.0-1025-oem), and Firefox installed via snap. The crash reports contain full details, of course, but the only thing I can think of that's especially "unusual" is that the 1Password extension has been misbehaving for a while (but it's been since long before these crashes began).

My system has 64GB of RAM, which is rarely more than 15% in use.

The only maybe-relevant Bugzilla bug I've found so far is: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1685642

Crash report IDs: bp-a3753677-5688-4033-a07a-118d80230103 bp-62703edd-f2a4-43c6-99bc-534090230103 bp-2d3d4bc5-a6d5-4c40-97dc-4243d0230103 bp-12fde33c-d116-4260-bd03-2f20c0230103 bp-b9cd92ec-9ba2-48ce-9865-24f480230103 bp-2b3e7f19-b849-4925-b615-c91f80230103 bp-2e8f2547-1c48-4108-b1ad-08fc70230103 bp-81d5c506-56d3-44fc-960c-6dd290230103 bp-2b743b56-63e8-4af8-9fc2-4d22b0230103 bp-a22058c8-6a01-4fd6-962f-2ad060230103 bp-8c295841-be88-4c11-a2c4-03e840221231 bp-dd558f7e-07a6-403a-89e2-c77bc0221231 bp-f3fad425-96ac-49dc-8761-584ef0221231 bp-6d0cd222-79f1-4018-bfed-4e3b10221231 bp-3737010b-6643-498a-ae2d-058b00221231 bp-e5075232-14c2-4c2e-8eb5-485bf0221231 bp-63dd2f58-9999-4dbd-a72f-e7a520221231 bp-771344f7-1c3c-4b93-99ed-24fb10221231 bp-5608cb88-4378-4cb7-b1c9-dd7630221231 bp-b3f2900f-9003-4497-9ba9-5678f0221228 bp-05c9684b-ec01-4281-8418-722cb0221224 bp-5e2a5302-5b3f-4c49-8441-bdfc00221212 bp-1464836e-5cff-447b-a6f1-5ad9f0221120 bp-e96f8a88-9499-4d84-87aa-559a90221120

The Historic Houses Association (www.historichouses.org) site has an option to show a map of interesting places. When I view this map in Firefox on Android or Windows 11, the icons show up correctly. For instance in the example map, next to Lincoln. In Android/Windows the icon shows a small castle in a drop pin while here in a Linux desktop it just shows a cross hatched box. The link to the web page still works. The roads in the Android/Windows versions correctly show A1, A46 etc. But here in Linux, you can just make out the road numbers behind the vertical hatching. Over a long period I have seen this has occur on a number of sites but I think that the maps are probably (cannot prove it) Mapbox/OpenStreetMap. But when I look at OpenStreeMap it self, the Road Numbers are fine and when I add a layer involving tags, they show as normal.

I know I could address this inquiry HHA but they will simply say 'they do not support Linux'. The site works in other environments so why not Linux? Also, as I have said, it has occurred on other sites in the past (though I must admit I cannot remember which ones and when - I tried a few while writing this support request) Is it likely that the web pages are being downloaded with a catalogue of Icons but this fails in the Linux version of Firefox? Would this account for the road numbers being corrupted as well?

The PC is running a fairly new (last 10 days) installation of Linux Manjaro with Mate desktop. However, this has been happening for some time (a couple of years) during which time, I have used Linux Mint, Debian and Manjaro, with Mate and Gnome desktops. Firefox is used as provided by Linux Manjaro, including Noscript and Adblocker - I have tried viewing this page with both disabled. The only changes I have made to Firefox settings is to enable 'when you open a link .... switch to it immediately', 'search for text when you start typing' and set 'browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab' to false.

I have put up with the problem because it only affects me, however I am about to load Linux Manjaro on to computers for other less computer literate/tolerant people who will be using similar maps. It would help them if I could get a fix.

Thanks for your time

Graphical Glitches and video freezing - Firefox 102.3.0esr-1~deb10u2 (Debian 10)

Every time I login to my desktop it tries to restore Firefox and in turn Firefox tries to restore it's session, however all I get is a mess of graphical glitches, the interface doesn't even load, I get a window border and usually a copy of the KDE splash screen. I then have to kill the process, which of course means it looses my session so when I re-open it I get nothing, all my open tabs are gone and there is no restore session option.

Further, it can't even play streaming videos properly anymore. After one or two episodes of a TV show its lagging sometimes by minutes, eaten gigs of ram and the video often gets stuck, the audio helpfully carries on with a frame of video from about 5 minutes ago. This is not an exaggeration, I had a YouTube video where it changed to a graph with a voice over, after 5 minutes I started to notice the voice over was talking about things not on that graph and sure enough the video had frozen. Its an i9 10850K with 32GB of RAM. The previous version of Firefox didn't mind restoring a session with over 350 tabs and plenty were videos, this one can't handle 2 when one is a video without freezing or locking up the whole browser.

No other apps/ programs on this PC are having any issues, it is only happening in Firefox, I can for example open a media player and play a video just fine while the video is stuck in the browser or it has the graphic glitches. I also tried opening another instance of Firefox while it had the graphical issue, the new instance started and created a new entry on the task bar, but switching to it gave the same display as the broken one, I can't tell you what tabs either had open as nothing inside the window was rendered at all, not even the menu bar which I set to always being visible.

Hi all, I'm having a lot of problems with Firefox crashing pretty often. Sometimes once or twice a day.

I most often see crashes in the middle of a Webex video conference for work. But Firefox sometimes goes down in other situations that I see no pattern in.

This is Ubuntu 20.04, Firefox 102.0. Unfortunately, it's a complex environment to debug.

First, when firefox goes down, it rarely leaves a crash report behind. So I'm not getting any direct evidence as to what is happening. Second, I run with uBlock active and it is very difficult to function in the browser without long enough for the crash to happen. Third, I typically have several hundred tabs open. I have a lot of memory (64G) in my machine, and the machine doesn't act like it's swapping, so I don't think I'm running out of memory.

Any help getting to the bottom of what's going on is welcome.

For a few months now I can't upload anything larger than 500 MB on Google Drive. I did talk to GD support and it worked fine with Chrome and Chromium. So whatever is causing this problem, it's in Firefox. I tried with a clear Firefox (one with no extensions by deleting /.mozilla) but it's still the same - the upload starts but then stops within the first 30 seconds. Ping and traceroute are all perfectly fine to google servers, no losses, so it's not the connection either.

Firefox is the latest stable version: 101.0.
