Over the past few days, I've noticed that whenever I type something in either the Google search bar or the address bar, the search results never load. The page flashes for a second, then stops working. The Google search engine and Google products, e.g. trying to log into Gmail, are the only things affected by this glitch. However, I can access everything and obtain search results in a Private widow, but not by using the regular browser interface. I've been using Firefox for years, and I've never had this issue. I've cleared the cache and I've tried disabling add-ons. How do I fix this issue?

I updated to version 99.0.1 but it keeps on going back to 98.0.2. Things I had tried:

  • Uninstall and reinstall Firefox
  • Refresh in about:support
  • Use a new profile

I think it is happening daily around the same time. Suddenly my pages in Firefox will stop loading. Then I need to close and reopen it. And then it will prompt me to start with a new profile because I am using an older version. On check, my Firefox had been reverted to version 98.0.2. Then I have to update and then only I can change back the profile.

When I log on to the National Savings website using Firefox ( though not when I log in with Chrome) I get the pop-up requiring me to accept or edit Cookies at every page on this particular website. It even happens when I select LOG OFF. Hence it occurs maybe six or more times whilst I am browsing the website. I complained to NS&I but they report it is not caused by their system. I therefore assume it it something within Firefox which is the problem. Can someone please advise me how to prevent these pop-ups. My operating system is Windows 10.

Weird Firefox Behavior, insane consumption and disk usage high, one off moment. Any ideas on what it could have been? Should I be worried?

To begin with I fell asleep with my PC on, and I woke up a couple of hours later, and I noticed my computer was running a little rough, so I decided to check task manager, and I saw Firefox using 20 gb's of ram, and 50% disk usage.

I had a couple of tabs open, and seeing that it was stressing my SSD, I decided to quickly close the process, and I checked through all the tabs, and there was only one tab that had crashed when I had ended the task on it. I am running version 99.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 10 21H2.

https://www.riotgames.com/en/work-with-us/job/3485689/staff-software-engineer-game-systems-valorant-los-angeles-usa

It was this link to a job posting for Riot Games. It had said that the tab had crashed and I had the option to refresh the tab. Not sure if it really was this or the tab just had some memory attached to that process. I had panic closed the process in task manager and forgot to screenshot anything else sadly.

Any ideas to what it was? Maybe just a memory leak or bug? My first instinct was to run a virus scan with Malwarebytes, and so far it has nothing, and I did a full scan of everything.

Have my extensions in the images. I've had these extensions for a long time at this point, I'm not sure if they would be the culprit or not.

I've never really seen or heard of this before, and this is the first time it's happened, and I don't know if it'll be repeatable either, just a bit worried about it is all.

I use Firefox as the browser for my email. Recently I have been unable to open or download pdf attachments (or any attachment) to emails. When I click on the attachment I get the message javascript:void(0).

I contacted the email company who said there was no problem at their end and that the problem was with Firefox and pop up blockers. I followed the advice in the attachment to unblock for my email account - but this did not solve the problem.

So I then tried Edge for my emails and I can open attachments in Edge.

So the problem is with Firefox.

Any advice please? Thanks

Hello,

The pop-up blocker exceptions are not working for some sites which I, of course, use a lot. The sites are listed in the exceptions, but Firefox stubbornly continues to block them. I sincerly consider walking away from Firefox (notwithstanding I love it and being a long term user), because it happens with sites I frequently use on a daily base.

I've looked around but none of the solutions work for me as those articles are rather old.

My version of Firefox: 99.0.1 (64bit) running under Windows 10 Pro

Hoping to find a solution here.

How do I stop this BS? I have several hundred pages bookmarked, and now after the last time I allowed firefox to update, I am unable to access 90% of them as I get the above message.

I would hope that I don't have to change browsers as all of the others I am aware of suck.

I am a Cyber Security Specialist and System Integrator (www.techwareusa.com and www.cybersecureusa.com ). I have developed a pretty good Cyber Security Stack with the exception of one chink in my armor. I have been running the Stack on my Clients systems (about 100 total) for over two years and have had only one breach. That breach was caused by the Client not following my suggestion (read any popup and don’t just click through it). He does now.

Part of my Stack is Firefox which I like a lot except that your cyber security leaves one thing as an exposure.

If one were to browse to a poisoned website (namely one infected with malware of some type) and click on an inserted link, malware is automatically downloaded and installed. Firefox does nothing to stop the system from being infected. This kind of website is one that pops up with a big red screen saying your machine has been infected with a “trojan” or some such. Do not attempt to turn off your system and call Microsoft Support at xxx-xxx-xxxx” (often an 800 #). Indeed, the browser is locked and can’t be closed from a normal action. (When I install Firefox, I setup the security features for my Clients including telling it to block pop-up windows and Warn you when websites try to install add-ons in the Privacy & Security, Permissions section. I have my Clients systems under my control via Splashtop Remote Support into my office. If the “Tech” hasn’t messed up my Splashtop install, I will go in, use Task Manager to shut down Firefox and then clean the system. If the “Tech” did mess up my Splashtop install, the system will have to be sent to me to fix. I have Clients in several states across the southern part of the country.

If the Client calls the 800# the “tech” will remotely access their system and totally messes it up with registry entry’s, replacing files with corrupted versions and such actions. All of this to raise the cost to my Client. They will charge the Client about $700 to $800 but also they will get the Client’s Credit card information to sell. The Client will then call me and often the system is so messed up that I have to reload the OS and missing applications plus my time and the total cost to the Client is often well over $1,000.

I have been looking for software that will block these poisoned websites. The only one that I have found that looks like it will work is Threatlocker. While a good product, the company has its head in the wrong place as far as setting up resellers. I am a reseller and have been in business for over 28 years and have had many vendor relationships. These folks want us to sign both an End User Agreement (that makes me responsible for the way that my Clients use their software) plus they want me to sign a Partner Agreement. In my mind I cannot be both and certainly will not agree to be the end user.

Back to what I am asking help on is the automatic install of the malware off of the poisoned website. Perhaps a browser “setting” to ask for an override button option to be able to install software on the system. If I chose this in the Firefox Settings it will take an action on the part of the user to override the automatic install. In fact, if we could add to the option a number of times (and maybe a message, like CALL BILL before you proceed) that the override button has to be pressed to do the install. The more I can get the user to think, the better it will be for them and the more they will appreciate Firefox and me. No other browser has any feature like this.
