Since pretty much the beginning of the internet, pop-ups were deemed a significant annoyance, so much so it diminished and ruined the users’ browsing experience and significantly reduced efficiencies. Hence the addition of pop-up blocking settings to all browsers long ago.

However, for some unknown reason Firefox gives Google a free pass and allows their “sign-in” pop-up that pop-ups seemingly on every website you visit where you then have to then manually close the pop-up on pretty much every single website you visit - even though you have the pop-up blocker setting on ( and the only way to turn off a pop-up blocker is to specifically add a website to allow for pop-ups).

This is absolutely horrible and not acceptable. If you have the pop-up setting on, no pop-up should be allowed to get through no matter what it is or the source. If you allow one pop-up to continue then you should be allowing hundreds of thousands of other pop-ups as well. But you wouldn’t as you know this would be unacceptable, but again, somehow Firefox allows Google’s pop-up to go through and it pop-ups on pretty much every single website you visit.

Note that I selected Privacy and Security Setting as the "topic" above as that is were Firefox has it's pop-up setting (and where you can add exceptions to allow pop-ups for specific websites)

I am getting notifications with the Mozilla logo or sometimes with McAfee logo saying "5 Viruses found, your computer is unstable" and various other warnings. They all also say "via qltuh.titanicooler.top" I have attached a picture.

I have closed the browser, I tried clearing my cache, I have scanned using both AVG, AVAST, F-Secure Online Scanner, and Microsoft Safet Scanner. I am not quite sure what else I should do.

Thank You

Before updating Firefox to 123.0.1 (64-bit) + MacOS Sonoma, I could use FIDO2 on OnlyKey and login to my proton mail. Now, however something has changed on Firefox that I get presented with two prompts to touch my usb key, but the key itself doesn't respond to the second prompt and login fails.

I first get this prompt as before. I select 'Authenticate' and would be presented with the second picture. Since my key is not expecting to be touched, nothing happens when I touch it and login fails with the message displayed in the last picture.

Firefox is notoriously adept when it comes to browser/user protection, (THANK YOU!!!!!!!!). Are there any plans to include protection against homograph/homoglyph attacks please? I think the simplest way would be to just search the URL for any characters that are not part of the current/usual typeset?

I understand the necessity of some Extensions / add-ons to "Access your data for all websites" and therefore i agree to that for some of them. So here's the question: Is it possible for the data collected by that ADDON to be transmitted over the internet to either the ADDON maker or any other unknown recipient? Or is it that they indeed are collected but stored and processed locally on my computer and never transmitted elsewhere?

I use an external password manager on my Android phone - Nextcloud Passwords. It works with Google Chrome, Firefox Focus, DuckDuckGo, and other browsers. However, the main Firefox browser does not allow me to use the autofill feature with this manager app. Here are the steps to reproduce:

  1. On a page with a username/password field, select one of the fields (give it focus)
  2. The soft-keyboard appears and an "Autofill" popup appears (good!)
  3. Pressing on the "Autofill" popup opens my password manager (good)
  4. Selecting the password to fill in the manager app returns me to the page
  5. Another popup should appear with the name of the site password selected in the manager app, and it looks like it does briefly, but another "Autofill" popup appears immediately. No username/password is filled.

This results in an endless loop of pressing the "Autofill" popup, selecting the password in the manager app, then the "Autofill" popup appears again.

In addendum to the below: I am now up to TB v 121.0.1 and still have this issue of untrusted S/MIME signatures from DoD sources. As I also have a DoD email, I can send myself test messages. If I send an unencrypted message from my DoD email in reply to to an S/MIME signed message from TB, I get the behavior described below in the original post, where my DoD S/MIME signature is not valid. If I reply to the same signed TB email with an encrypted message from my DoD email, TB decrypts the message but still says my signature is not valid. However, the "invalid" message is slightly different with an additional clue - the message states that "This message includes a digital signature, but the signature is invalid. The message was signed using an encryption strength that this version of your software does not support." See snips 4 (error)+ 5 (successful decryption) below. Is it possible that the newer signature certificates from DoD use an encryption strength that cannot be decrypted by TB, yet the message encryption works? Another clue is that it appears I can send encrypted emails to some DoD recipients (but not all) even if their signature is invalid.

Original Post: I have received a signed email from a DoD sender in TB v115.5.1. The S/MIME icon states the Digital Signature is Not Valid (png below), consequently, the cert was not imported into the TB Certificate Manager. I have updated the DoD Root Certificates, and ensured that the most commonly used DoD Root certs and Email certs have trust settings that identify web sites and mail users (add'l png examples). I cannot examine the cert I received in TB, although I seem to recall I could by clicking on the icon in earlier versions of TB.

How can I: 1) Identify the certificate authorities for the invalid cert to ensure they are trusted? 2) Examine and import the certificate from the user? This is not unique to a single user, it happens with DoD emails whose certs were not already in my Certificate Manager, and the organization I commonly communicate with is changing everyone's email, so everyone is getting new certs. This prevents me from sending encrypted emails to the recipients.

Hello!

Firefox on Android won't display pop-ups. I've checked privacy setting but there's no checkbox for a popup blocker. Also tried about:config but didn't find any setting to change. Any ideas on how to be sure Firefox is comfigured to allow popups? I participate on a Zoom webinar and can't start Zoom through Firefox so have to use Chrome.

Thanks!

I am speechless. Thunderbird has made the biggest mistake in all my time in FOSS since 2008. I don't post this because I enjoy it; I've handed out Linux distros at Software Freedom Day. But there comes a point when I have a right to be unhappy even with a free tool.

The previous version of Thunderbird had a button under tools; I could delete all junk emails in one click. THIS IS MY MAIN REASON TO USE THUNDER BIRD. I run a business email and I get so much spam.

But now that tool is gone in Supernova. I am left to deleting ONE junk email at a time which would take hours? Not to mention the safety aspects of this; I need to clean my emails so that my business partner who uses the computer doesn't fall for a scam.

PLEASE PLEASE put this delete junk button under Tools back in. If not I have no choice but to look for a different email client. I can put in my own email sever settings. Fine. I am not asking for an email client that molly coddles me. But this change is ridiculous.

I can not under stand why Supernova has done this.

Good day,

Really happy to see that mozilla is tightening up security. But unfortunately, I can't enroll into Two-Step Authentication everytime I enter code it's not being accepted. I tried multiple android apps of those codes and non of them work for me.

Because of that, I lost access to addons.mozilla.com account, because system doesn't let me in without 2step auth enabled.

Any chance I can use yubikey's intead of those auth apps? or anything else I can do?

I have had it with Firefox playing cop. I really have. I have a site that I visit frequently but these past two updates have now broken my ability to sign into the site at all, even in private mode. All I get is the shield and human icons with the strike-through and the error message on the user name/password field that says: This Connection Is Not Secure. Logins Entered Here Could Be Compromised. Learn More.

I've hit the escape button, tried private windows, done everything I can including resetting which was my last resort and which I hate doing, there's no more whitelist, no way to bypass anything, this is totally unacceptable that I cannot get past this. Firefox is becoming more useless to me as they try to become more and more in control of what I can and cannot do. If there is no override to this, then I have to find a different browser because it's pretty useless to use one browser for some sites and another for other sites, don't you think? So if someone has a workaround for this problem, can you please tell me what it is?
