Is my computer infected?

more options

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is having a great day.

Not too long ago, I was browsing through my emails using Firefox (the version is 18.0.1). I am on an imac computer with the Snow Leopard operating system, and I have all the latest updates from Apple in Software Update.

I received an email from someone I know (through a game) and opened it. In the past, I have received emails from this person without any issues. When I opened up this email, there was just a link. Thinking it was safe as I knew the person (at least enough to open emails from them), I clicked on the link and it redirected me to another website. Immediately upon loading the website, I got a warning message that said this could be a fraud website. It all happened so fast because I wanted to get off of there, so please forgive me if I can't quote the message completely. There were two options below the message. I can't remember the one on the right, but the one on the left said something along the lines of "Get me off or out of here!" When I saw that, I clicked on it and it redirected me back to the Firefox homepage.

I then re-logged into my email account, deleted the emails, and then logged out. It all happened so fast, I didn't think to save the link to the website.

My questions are these: Since I was using Firefox, how safe was I? Even if I didn't enter any information on that website, can I be infected just by clicking on that link? Since I am on an imac, should I be safe?

Is there anything else I should do?

I have never experienced this before, so I am sort of worried.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Take care everyone.

Sincerely, EagerLearner

If you got the Safe browsing warning page then you are OK if you didn't ignore this warning, but closed the tab or otherwise didn't proceed.

Hello cor-el,

I hope you are doing well.  :)

Thank you very much for your reply!

I checked my Security Preferences for Phishing and Malware Protection, and they both were checked. Also, I went to Mozilla's phishing and malware test sites and they both were successfully blocked. The page I was referring to in my first post looked just like the phishing and malware test sites...which one I am not sure.

Does this mean everything is fine?

Thank you very much, and have a nice day!  :)

Yes, if you didn't proceed to the actual reported site then you are OK.
