Are you using google.com as your Homepage? (or other local specific google.com page)

If so, the Olympic "doodle" game which Google has been using for a few days now is causing Firefox to crash upon launch or to suck-up 100% CPU cycles for users who don't get a crash upon launch.

Fix: Change your Homepage or use a blank page until the Olympic games are finished.

I too have had Firefox for years and NEVER had an issue (was using V14) until a few days ago. I had my homepage set to google and only in the past 2 or 3 days have I had an issue - I would open firefox and almost IMMEDIATELY it would close saying firefox crashed. Does this have something to do with their olympic animations as the above user said?? I even upgraded to the 15.0 Beta version and am STILL having the same issue! :( I ended up having to go into control panel to my Flash Player settings, click on check now for updates to at least open firefox on the Adobe Flash homepage to get it up at least then I was at least able to switch my homepage to NPR instead of Google and now I am on (obviously!). I submitted crash reports but never heard back from Mozilla. Is this being researched? What is the root cause and will there be a fix? I am also on the latest version of Flash (11.3.300.270) so that should not be an issue. Please advise ASAP. Thank you

I thought it might have something to do with ver 14.0.1 so I uninstalled it and the maintenance module. (Being the control freak I am, I don't like automatic updates of any kind anyway.) I then loaded version 13.0.1 and the problem disappeared and hasn't shown up again, so from this I can surmise that ver. 14.0.1 might have a problem because I didn't have crashes until yesterday. Admittedly it might have been the interactive logo. In any case after downgrading to ver. 13.0.1, I went into options and disabled auto updates, then set updates to download but notify before installing. Didn't have to change my homepage for the duration of the Olympics. I have to say that after this experience I'm kind of leery of Google. This caution is encouraged by the ghostery add-on that shows just how much tracking Google does. Don't like to be tracked or counted as a statistic, especially when it's all about marketing...oh yes and fodder for the FBI.
