I created a sample PDF and viewed it in Adobe Reader on a phone. 5 of the images display normally, while 4 show as black boxes. Are you seeing something similar?
Investigating further, the 5 that converted as expected were .png images, and the 4 that failed were .jpg images. Hmmm...
Edit: On a page with a JPEG background image, the entire page is black except for the form controls (search box and search button). Not useful.
Edit #2: I posted a bug with my examples: Bug 758893 – Save As PDF renders JPEGs as black rectangles (Android 2.3.4 / HTC). Please note that every comment on the bug currently cc's by email over two dozen people. Therefore, please avoid posting "me too" comments, although if you register for the Bugzilla site, you can "vote" to help give the bug higher priority.

By the way, I apologize if your issue was specific to the Kindle Fire native PDF viewer rather than the Adobe Reader for Android. Do you see any difference between the two?
Thx for the quick response, my problem is with the adobe reader for android, and is exactly as you described, with the .png images being ok and the .jpg ending up as black boxes.
According to this morning's reply on the bug I posted, it is a duplicate of an earlier bug, and it is fixed in the beta of Firefox 14 for Android. I haven't tested the beta version, but it should be available in the "Play" app store.
