Firefox doesn't consistently remember the location of exported bookmark library HTML file

I save my Firefox bookmark library by way of Exported bookmark library HTML files. I save those files on a network server. Example file name: bookmarks_(02-17-12)-(a).html

However, when I attempt to save another backup file on a different day, the path to the backup folder might appear, or Firefox might reset the location to my desktop. My desktop is my default location for downloaded files.

The latter means that I will have to browse, to find the path again and again. So, why am I experiencing that inconsistency?
