Chosen solution

Firefox 4 is not secure; Firefox 5 is a security and stability update for Firefox 4. The only currently supported versions of Firefox are Firefox 5 and Firefox 3.6.19 (support to expire in a month or two).

As for the Google toolbar....

Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox beyond Firefox 4.

Try using this extension to force compatibility

Thanks so much your advice. Very appreciative. I will try and report back to you. (It was so nice before to have Firefox with Google toolbar. I guess in the end I may have to install the google toolbar onto internet explorer (which is kind of slow)
