Back button not available to return to 1st page - OK after that

Recently noticed that the back button remains grey on the 2nd page after first loading FF, or on 2nd page after a new tab. After that you can go back OK but only as far as 2nd page used in sequence. Right click on back button does not list 1st page used.'
