I have liked the fact that in the Mac browser iCab, the browser history (places you have visited) is shown in chronological order. Now that I often use Firefox on a PC, I'm wondering if there is any way I can have Firefox do the same thing?

Use keyboard shortcut Control+H or in the View menu choose Sidebar and then History. This will open up the history sidebar. In the sidebar click on the View button and select "By Last Visited"

The Firefox 3.0.16 version from 2009120208 that you use is rather old and Firefox 3.0.x versions are no longer getting security updates.

Any reason why you haven't updated to a Firefox 3.5 or 3.6 version? See also Upgrading Firefox
