cant download latest version

Regularly a window used to open (and still does) asking me to download the latest version of firefox. I clicked yes & it started to run but it took forever so I closed it. Then I decided to try to download it from the website which I thought I had done and when i look in Finder Applicatgions it says I have 3.6.13 BUT when I look at the dropdown menu on screen to About Firefox it says 3.6.10. The window is still opening telling me to download the latest version.
