How do I make my Download window function? It hasn't worked since I downloaded V3.6.3

For whatever reason, my download window has never displayed ANY info about downloads since I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.3 in February. It worked perfectly before then. It appears that it still isn't working in 3.6.8. I try to download an app, or updates for software, or anything, and it just goes off into never never land. Nothing shows up in the Download window, and the file never gets saved to my harddisk. I've searched for the file name many times after trying a download and I can't find the file anywhere on my harddrive. I don't think it's a firewall problem, as the function worked just fine before 3.6.3.
