Thunderbird stops downloading messages from folders in Yahoo webmail account

I've been able to connect Thunderbird to thee IMAP and SMTP servers for my webmail account. I can see the inbox and all other folders fine but when it comes to downloading messages I've run into a problem.

If I click on a folder that I know has new messages in it, Thunderbird will announce "sending login information" and ":downloading nn messages from (folder name)." This works OK for 3 or 4 folders, but after that Thunderbird only says "sending login information" and downloads no messages from folders that I know have new messages. It also updates the inbox the same way; if I click on Inbox right away, the new messages will download. If I download from a few other folders first, Inbox won't download.

Does anybody have any idea why this happens?
