I cannot get firefox to reconize .mxf (material exchange files) it will not save download information (where to save and what program to open)

I cannot get firefox to reconize .mxf (material exchange files) it will not save download information (where to save and what program to open). Usually in the preference settings under application, I can choose material exchange files and toggle the action to save file, but now I cant even see it as an option.
