I have been using Firefox for ages on this computer, but after automatic updating to the latest Firefox, it did not start. Instead the crash reporter comes up with the following message:

"The application had a problem and crashed Unfortunately, the crash reporter is unable to submit a report for this crash. Details: The application didn't leave an application data file."

I have then uninstalled Firefox and completely deleted files in the programme folders, both 32 bit and 64 bit and then installed from scratch, but I get the same problem. I tried 64 bit and 32 bit. Note that to install, I have to enter an admin password, so permissions may be the problem. As this is a company laptop, I can't change that. OS: Win 10 Enterprise Version 1607 build 14393.2665 Dell Latitude laptop

Any idea what could be wrong?

Many thanks, Jan

Thanks for suggesting this. I have renamed my old profile by changing the name of the folder, then launched firefox.exe -P to create a new profile and set this to be used on startup. Starting firefox still gives the same error. The new profile does not exist in the filesystem (as a sister directory of the old profile) so it seems that generating the new profile has not worked?

BTW, there is a lock file in the old profile folder with today's date so it seems that the old profile folder was accessed after I installed the new firefox.

In case it helps, here the content of the profile.ini file in the root directory of the profiles:

.[General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/fhrn4tol.default

[Profile1] Name=quantumjan IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/vryf390u.quantumjan Default=1

Profile1 is the new one. A folder with that name does not exist.

Thanks, Jan.
