I think I accidentally compacted folders and emptied my trash, is there any way to restore my old folders with the messages in each of them?

I was trying to clean up my mail and I clicked empty trash. Then I went into my "Local Folders" and did the same, deleted all sent and then emptied trash again. At some point, a message came up asking if I wanted to compact all of my folders, which I instinctively clicked "yes" to without thinking. Now, all of my sub folders that were under my local folders are missing and so is all of the important email in each folder. PLEASE tell me there is a way for me to retrieve or reinstate it all? Thanks! (This is why I usually leave this stuff to my husband....I shouldn't be allowed to use computers!)
