How can I restore messages to my Inbox??

I backed up the Inbox using Import/Export Tools some months ago. I exported in EML format. Now because of a system crash I need to import those messages back into my Inbox. When I use the Import/Export Tools to import these messages from my backup media, the messages are restored to both my Thunderbird Inbox and to the Inbox on the Earthlink e-mail server.

I don't want them on the e-mail server, I want them restored only to the Thunderbird Inbox.

After I did the import, they went to both the Thunderbird Inbox and the server Inbox. When I used the Earthlink Web Mail service, I could see them in the server Inbox. When I deleted them from the Inbox using the Web Mail services, they also were deleted from the Thunderbird Inbox.

I want to get these messages back to the Thunderbird Inbox but not to the Earthlink Web Mail Inbox. What do I need to do?

Chosen solution

Is your account IMAP... Then the server and Thunderbird are synchronized. That ois how IMAP works.

You are perhaps expecting behavior like folk have traditionally had with POP mail accounts. If so I suggest you configure your account as POP, not IMAP.

That was exactly the problem. Thanks so much for your help. I was configured as an IMAP Mail Server. When I reconfigured the account to a POP Mail Server every thing worked great. Thanks again for the good help.
