Firefox crashing, linux mint 18.3 64bit, happens during file search (file explorer)

When searching my hard drives for files, Firefox crashes constantly, between gah! and ctd. Crash reports are no longer being generated. (about:crashes is empty)

My search for files uses the linux default file explorer. This search is completely independent of firefox but seems to be causing the issue.

Linux Mint 18.3 64bit

Crashes are repeatable. Have a handful of tabs open, watch a video on youtube then open explorer search for a file, then wait.

Might be a file access thing where firefox attempts to write/read while file explorer is checking the file? (just an educated guess)
