Running in background. Will not open, cannot open in safe mode or uninstall and start over... sucking battery life too

Firefox updated and worked 24 hours. Edge keeps popping up telling me to use it instead. I don't use that as a browser, but even when I say not to default to that, it changes and makes it the default browser. Now Firefox does not open. Not that I can see, only when I tried to uninstall and install, it says it is running. I cannot open it in safe mode either.
