thunderbird will not allow email in inbox to be placed into appropriate folder. Message disk space is full! compacting has no effect and deleting emails fails

Thunderbird will not permit moving emails from Inbox to appropriate storage folder, saying disk space is full.

Compacting fails to solve. No deleting of emails is possible, as the storage issue comm-box again says disk space is full.

Try doing what you just did and it all fails again!!!
