Opening external links opens an instance of FF Dev Edition but doesn't redirect to that link

I'm running Linux Mint and installed Firefox Developer Edition "manually" by downloading the package from the official website and then unzipping it to /opt/ and creating a .desktop file at ~/.local/share/applications/firefox_dev.desktop, in order to get a launcher icon.

Basically followed the instructions found here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/548003/how-do-i-install-the-firefox-developer-edition.

Everything is working smoothly except for one tiny detail. If I use FFDev as my default browser, and click an external link, (ex. from a chat application like Slack/Discord/Steam) it will open up a new browser window, but not send me to that link.

Any
