Why don't my tabs collapse when using fullscreen?

I am using the latest version of Firefox on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. When I do command+F to enter fullscreen, my address bar and tabs stay on the screen. I have tried entering "pref set browser.fullscreen.autohide true" in the developer toolbar to no avail.
