Why does junk detector permanently delete suspicious mail rather than send it to the Junk folder? SOLVED caused by McAfee spam controls

more options

Recently, starting about a month ago or so, when I open Thunderbird and it connects to my ISP to download new emails, any emails that the Junk Detector "thinks" might be spam, those emails are immediately permanently deleted instead of being moved into my JUNK folder, as I have instructed Thunderbird in all the options on how to handle junk mail. I know that there have been some emails that have been sent to me for the first time by a new friend or colleague whom I have not yet put into my contacts folder. In fact, I know of one email in particular when someone was sending me their email address in the email that just got permanently deleted. So if anyone knows what is going on here and what I can do to stop this behavior, I would be most grateful any assistance. Right now, to monitor activity, I am logging on to my email account through my ISP so I can examine what is in the Inbox ready to be downloaded into Thunderbird before I launch Thunderbird. It is a nuisance, but is the only way I know for the moment to monitor all my incoming mail. Thank you!

Sorry for the delay in posting.... Turning off the McAfee spam controls did fix my problem. All incoming mail marked as spam is being sent properly to my Junk folder.

Thanks for your help!

Do you have spam controls in your anti virus/ Internet security suite?

Thanks, Matt, for replying. Yes, I use McAfee Internet Security suite 2015 and yes, I did have spam controls set. I am guessing you will tell me to disable them, which I have done. Now I just have to wait for more mail to come in to my ISP before I can tell if this has affected my problem. I will give you an update tomorrow. Thanks, again!

Yes I will tell you to disable them. Personalty I would replace McAfee with something a little less problematical. I do not think they have had a release in the past three years that has not caused some sort of issue with Thunderbird, most causing critical usability problems.

please see the notes on McAfee here we try and keep it up to date, but we also rarely if ever remove old stuff.

Thanks again, Matt!

What would you suggest instead of McAfee? I have to have some protection. I know there have been past issues with McAfee and Thunderbird. I used Norton for years then switched to McAfee on the recommendation of a friend. If disabling McAfee's spam controls fixes my problems, then i am puzzled why this problem has not shown up earlier, since I have had this version of McAfee active since about Dec. 2014 with spam controls on.
