Cannot xfer Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird 38

I have Outlook 2003 on my PC and have a lot of saved Outlook emails in my own subset of folders that I need to keep (and occasionally need to access).

Have only just installed Thunderbird so bear with my very limited knowledge.

For now I am bypassing integration ie not setting it as Default but it is reading/sending emails from/to the server.

If I select Tools/Import/Everything it shows Outlook as only option but it is greyed out. When I select Next Thunderbird crashes (have set it to send crash log).

If I select Tools/Import/Mail it shows options Eudora (greyed out), Outlook (greyed out) and Outlook Express (not greyed out). If I select Outlook (not Express) and Next nothing happens except it creates a folder in Local Folders called Outlook Import with just one subfolder named Trash but it is empty. Nothing else happens.

I have tried the above with Outlook stopped in case there are any access problems to the .pst file.

Am I missing a vital step?

Tried to attach a jpg picture of the Thunderbird screen but all I got was the circular progress wheel forever!
