I deleted a bunch of folders. They are all in the trash bin. I want to empty the trash bin to get rid of the folders, but they remain.

A bunch of folders I created some time ago were in my saved folder. I deleted all of them. Now they're in my trash bin. I tried emptying the trash several times but the folders and their contents remain. How can I get rid of the folders permanently?
