I need my e-mails to remain as single enties [like they were in my OUTLOOK box] with absolutely no THREADS or interlinking so how do i disable that Baillie Hul

more options

First of all, iv really tried to solve this by investigating all the areas that yuv led me to. None of them seem to deal directly with disabling the frustratingly annoying THREADS that seem to be a default type setting. Secondly, im new to all this computer stuff and, frankly, you use so much jargon and alternate meanings for words that have other prior meanings for that much of what iv been led to read, has befuddled me and I cant decide if theres a solution somewhere in the text. Please talk down to me with very very simple words instead of Tabs or Tags and such like that you assume that im familiar with. I keep a list of categories on the left side of my THUNDERBIRD in box and I transfer each msg that I don't delete into the appropriate category where I can easily see each one [with its identifying new subject line] that I might have occasion to return to at some later date. With yur frustrating THREADS completely undermine my simple, effective system; im at the end of my teather and considering alternatives to THUNDERBIRD but you come highly recommended from an IT friend of mine and if we [you and I] can sort out the glitches, im anticipating a long and useful association. So, in the simplest of terms, please take me thru, step by simple, clear step, each action I have to take to never again see any reference to any sort of interference with my unadulterated e-mails. And I appreciate that dealing with someone of my ilk requires a certain amount of patience and yur time. Thank you! Salut Baillie Hull

Chosen solution

Press the CTRL and while holding it press V on that menu select sort by. Then select unthreaded from the sub menu.

Ok Threads are now off.

I have no idea what you have tried so far that has not worked or who this "you" that you keep referring to but here is a simple explanation. If you do not like the VIEW then go to the VIEW menu.

View-Sort By-Unthreaded

Sorry for the confusion; iv not found anything in my search to actually "try" to resolve my problem and the "you" refers to yur programmers who have offered up possible answers to my inquires which refer me to frequently asked questions and other suggestions when I enter "threads" as a lead. Following yur suggestion I entered [again] the VIEW menu at the top of page. I only found 8 words that are offered. None of them have VIEW SORT BY UNTHREADED. Of the 8, five have one of those little arrow-heads at thur right side but opening each of them does not lead to those words either. Im prepared to accept that in my ignorance im over-looking something basically simple and crucial to my getting to the promise of disabling those threads that yur knowledge suggests is there, just around some corner. Could you be "pathetically" more specific about my every move to get to yur VIEW SORT BT UNTHREADED ? Appreciate yur patience. Salut Baillie Hull

FYI: Most, if not all, people answering your questions here are Thunderbird users like you that volunteer their time to help out.

You know what they say about a picture. Maybe this will help. Be sure you are using the View command in Thunderbird and not Firefox. That obviously will not work.

I think that is ALL Airmail. I have not seen a Mozilla employee here in a long time.

But as we are not a Mozilla project anymore that is not all that surprising. The sole Mozilla support leader (Roland) will be stepping down following the release of TB38 into a consultant capacity. I think I will have to fill those shoes. Care to help?

I will continue to help the best I can. My wife and I are going to do some traveling this summer. My cancer is in remission so we need to get out while we can. As long as we stop somewhere with good wifi I will be checking the forum.

Yes this explains what I should have seen. I have no idea how the VIEW that I clicked on gave me the 8 options that I told you about [and none of them were SORT]. When I approached it from the advice that MATT responded with, I found it gave me yur picture. As you indicted, clicking on UNTHREADED got rid of this impediment. Thank you both. Additionally I received what seems to be a private exchange of msgs between you two. I have decided to consider it an unintended glitch and deleted them. Although it amuses me to wonder if this an extraordinary irony caused by "threading". Salut Baillie Hull

Iv used the little boxes to indicate that yur solution worked for me but I thought you should see my response to AIRMAIL concerning the additional e-mails between you two that also came thru. Heres a COPY&PASTE: Yes this explains what I should have seen. I have no idea how the VIEW that I clicked on gave me the 8 options that I told you about [and none of them were SORT]. @WBBH. Everyone on a thread gets emailed on every posting on that thread. On this occasion Airmail and I had an exchange of information, nothing private, or we would not have had that exchange in the forum. We would have used email.

Im caught between "let it go" and "perhsaps its something that you should be aware of". Forgive me if im being pedantic; but, in my opinion, the COPY&PASTEs below are indeed yur personal correspondence. And as such, you surely can see how it "tickles my fancy" that it might be the product of the [according to my experiences] interfering, annoying, and out of control "threads". Please dont interpret this as an attempt to engage you kind people further or waist yur time which yuv already been more than generous with. Salut Baillie Hull
