Starting in Firefox version 142, you can preview links to learn more about a webpage before you open it.

How to preview a link

1. Click and hold a link for about a second (long press). You can also right-click on a link and choose Preview Link from the menu.
2. A card pops up with details from the page, like a small image, the page title and description, and estimated reading time if available.

   

3. Optionally, you can also use AI to read the beginning of the page and generate a few bullet points. To prioritize your privacy, the AI works on your device. This means you’ll need at least 3 GB of available RAM to use the optional AI.

How to configure shortcuts

1. Go to Settings > General > Browsing. To go straight there, click the settings gear icon in the preview card.
2. Under Enable link previews, uncheck the box for the shortcut.

If you turn off the shortcut, you’ll still be able to preview links if you right-click and choose Preview Link.

How to configure AI-generated points

1. Go to Settings > General > Browsing. To go straight there, click the settings gear icon in the preview card.
2. Under Enable link previews, uncheck Allow AI to read the beginning of the page and generate key points.

How to delete the local Link Previews model

Opting in to AI key points in Link Previews will download a small language model to your device. If you want to review or remove this model, type about:addons in the address bar of Firefox and select On-Device AI from the menu.

• Remove models: Helpful if you need to manage space on your device, or if you simply don’t use the associated feature or extensions anymore.

How to turn off Link Previews entirely

1. Go to Settings > General > Browsing. To go straight there, click the settings gear icon in the preview card.
2. Uncheck Enable link previews.

Preview Link will no longer appear in the menu when you right-click on a link. And, previews won’t be triggered by using a shortcut.
