Firefox lets you import your Favorites (called Bookmarks in Firefox), settings and other data from Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, saving you from having to configure many things yourself. This article gives you step-by-step instructions for getting it done.

Note: This article was written for Windows but generally applies to Mac, when Microsoft Edge is installed. To start the Import process on macOS, you can click File in the Firefox Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Import from Another Browser…, select Microsoft Edge in the Import Wizard window that opens, and then follow the prompts to choose what data to import.

Start the Import process

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. In the General panel, click Import Data under the Import Browser Data section.

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton to open the menu panel. Click Bookmarks and then click the Manage bookmarks bar at the bottom.
  2. In the Library window, click Import and Backup, and choose Import Data from Another Browser…

Tip: Another way to import from another browser is to click File in the Firefox Menu bar at the top of the screenenable the Menu bar (press Alt on the keyboard to enable it temporarily), then click File in Menu bar at the top of the Firefox window, and select Import from Another Browser…

Choose what data to import

In the Import Wizard window that opens, select Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Edge Legacy or Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then click Next.

Firefox will list the types of settings and information it can import.

  • Browsing History: Information on the sites you have visited.
  • Saved Form history Information on what you've entered in webpage forms.
  • Logins and Passwords: Logins for websites.
  • Favorites: Web pages you have saved in your Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer favorites.

Select the items you want to import, then click Next. The items you selected should now be imported.

Your imported favorites from Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer will appear as a folder in your Bookmarks Toolbar and Bookmarks menu.
