Several of the story pages on CBSNews.com have hidden comments, which supposedly can be revealed by clicking the "Show Comments" or "+" links at the bottom of the article. In Internet Explorer, this works. In Firefox, it hasn't in recent memory, though I think at one time it did.

You didn't include troubleshooting information including installed plugin, so we aren't able to do suggestions.

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
  • Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.

hello troublemaker125, please try to go through the steps listed at Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should - they contain some common solutions for issues as you've described it.

You can try some basic steps in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Okay ... I started Firefox in Safe Mode and the comments came up. Question: HOW do I determine just WHICH add-in or whatever CAUSED that problem? Going through them all and disabling them one at a time strikes me as being pretty tiresome, though I will admit, it may be necessary.

Interesting ... it DOES seem to be Ad Block Plus doing the blocking. The question now, of course, is WHY, but I realize that's not your bailiwick.

Thanks for all your help!

You should be able to see which rules are active on that web page and disable them for those pages.

You can also try to ask advice at the Adblock Plus forum:

Again, cor-el, I want to say thanks. You've been wonderfully helpful! I will check the Ad Block forum at your suggestion.
