I have always used Firefox, but also have Chrome and Edge on my 17" PC. For the past week or so, my scroll bar (on right side of screen) has "disappeared". It is actually still there, but so skinny that it cannot be seen or used. I Googled solutions to this, and found an article that had 8 possible solutions. I went through all 8, went into the various control options. Still, the same problem. Downloaded the latest version of Firefox and installed. Still the same problem. So- I decided to see if it was an issue with my pc. I tried the Chrome browser. It works fine. I tried the Edge browser. It works fine. I know now that the problem is with the Firefox browser. Something "went wrong" in the latest version. To add to this -- I also have to note that if I shut down and restart the pc, I can get the Firefox scroll bar to return (sometimes). BUT (this is really weird): if the scroll bar appears normal, the bar at the top of the page (not sure what that is called) does not work correctly/ is missing features. This is what happens: there is no X to exit a page, there is no "V " sign to make a page small, etc. All 4 symbols that should be in the top right side of the top bar are missing. Also, there are no tabs available. It won't allow you to have more than one tab! So, if you are in your gmail (for example), you must close out the gmail in order to do a google search or do anything else! Something is terribly wrong with the latest Firefox update.

There's a setting in about:config which may help with the scrollbars. widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style 0: Default platform scrollbar style. 1: macOS scrollbars 2: GTK scrollbars 3: Android scrollbars 4: Windows 10 scrollbars 5: Windows 11 scrollbars

For the other issue, do you have code affecting the width of the toolbar in a userChrome.css file?

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?

I went into Troubleshoot Mode and followed through with every step listed (disabling extensions, etc). Problem remains the same. I checked the history for Firefox installs, and I see that Firefox 118.0.1 was installed on Sept 29, 2023. This is when the issue started. So, I think I can safely say that it is a problem with the latest version of Firefox. I have no problems when using other browsers.

You can't disable extensions in Troubleshoot Mode since they are already disabled. Are you sure you entered Troubleshoot Mode?

Does it still happen in a new profile? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.

I went into Troubleshoot Mode, and this did not solve the problem. So, Troubleshoot Mode instructions say to try some other things if Troubleshoot Mode doesn't solve the problem. So, I followed all those options. And, still get the same result. I will try new profile and see what happens. Thanks.

I tried a New Profile, and when in the new profile, the issue is resolved! (Thanks!) But-- questions:

The profile I was using (in-use) is named "default-release". There was another profile in existence named "default". I had never created any profiles before, since I had never been in this area of Firefox controls. (I don't know anything about profiles). So, I don't know why there were two profiles in existence.

Anyway, before I knew that the "default" profile existed, I created Test profile. So, then I had 3 profiles. Going into "Test" or going into "default", the problems do not show up.

So, I went back into "default-release" profile, and went into Refresh Firefox. After the refresh, the problems I had cited were gone.

Questions: How does a profile get corrupted? Is it normal to have a profile named "default-release"? (I did not have anything to do with profiles before this.)

Now, Bookmarks are an issue: After the refresh, Firefox extensions were deleted (which I was aware would happen). I tried to re-install/replace those extensions by looking through the Firefox list of available extensions. (There were only 4). I was able to get back most functionality.

But, the one thing that is messed up is the Bookmarks. Technically, the bookmarks are still "there". But getting to them involves going through several menus. I used to be able to click on a "little star" in the bar, and it would drop down a list of categories where I stored my bookmarks (e.g. Audio bookmark, Current Events bookmark, Amazing Stories bookmark, etc). How do I get access to my Bookmarks as I did before?

Profile corruption can be due to third-party software, malware, hardware failure, cosmic rays etc.

The profile naming convention was changed from "default" to "default-release" to indicate which channel the profile belongs to.

For bookmarks, go into Customize mode and drag the "Bookmarks menu" button into the toolbar.
